Nestor Cortes’ Incredible 2022 season (# in MLB): 2.44 ERA (7th), 0.92 WHIP (4th), 3.9 WAR (23rd), 9.27 K/9 (12th), 2.16 BB/9 (19th), 4.29 K/BB (16th)

Nasty Nestor has been simply astounding this season.

Our true ace.

I’m so psyched to have finally see him pitch in person, and it was the best Yankee pitching game I’ve been to.

Start Nestor in Game 1, Boone/Cashman!

P.S – Nestor’s FIP was 3.25 (17th in MLB) before the game today. [Fangraphs hasn’t updated it yet](https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=150&type=8&season=2022&month=0&season1=2022&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2022-01-01&enddate=2022-12-31&sort=19,a).

  1. In the pantheon of CC Sabathia, Roger Clemens, and Masahiro Tanaka.

    The Ace Takes Flight.

  2. RIP to the fact that none of these will count officially, he is going to fall short of the Innings requirement.

  3. Nestor was extremely efficient, but he also didn’t pitch a lot of innings (if he doesn’t start again this regular season, he won’t even qualify for the innings requirement). This was his first full season as a starter so no need to rush to dump a huge load on him, but we’ll want to see him take on a bigger load next season. If he can replicate this year’s numbers, but do it over 180 IP instead of 160, he’ll move into true Ace tier.

I actually still trust him more than Cole this postseason. Cole can eat more innings and he has more dominant outings, but Cole also has significantly more super ugly implosions (I don’t have the stats on me, it’s just my observations). I suppose part of it is that Boone just keeps Cole out there to see if he can dig himself out of his own trouble (since Cole is being paid ace-level money, he’s expected to do ace-like things), except Cole too often does not. If I need 4-5 good innings, I trust Nestor more than Cole.

  4. If you trust Cole more than Nestor at this point you a) haven’t been watching baseball for the last two years, and/or b) you’re a clown
