  1. they gotta find a way to keep him. They let hyman walk but Bunting fits so well here. We can’t just keep turning middle tier players over and over, no guarantee we find another bunting gem

  2. Keep in mind the cap is going up $1M next season and a bunch more next season and the one after. $4.5M is Kerfoot + the $1M bump. So any term around that AAV will be fine in the short term and age well in the long-term as the cap increases and it becomes a lower % of the cap.

  3. I had a slight feeling he was wanting to stay, after the breakout season he had last year, plus just seeing the banter between the top line and it genuinely feeling like a bunch of buddies who also happen to play hockey professionally as well (I know some of that is PR but still)

  4. An 8-year deal for a 27-year-old with ~105 NHL games would be fucking wild. I don’t know why, but the thought of an 8-year $22M seems borderline silly.

  5. This is his dream come true. But also, if you’re a bubble player who gets the shocking opportunity to ride shotgun with marner and matthews and you have a huge year, no shot you want to remove yourself from that situation lol

  6. with kerfoot, engvall, kämpf and holl all coming up at the same time I can see him being the odd man out.

  7. I don’t blame players for chasing the bag, especially the non-superstars in the league, but it’s gotta be pretty fucking awesome getting to play with Matthews and Marner every night and having inflated points totals on a contender-ish team.

  8. I think Leafs would want to bridge him with something like 2 x 4M. There’s going to be no issues retaining any players starting 2024 with most contracts off the book.

Going to have to think that Bunting wants a long term deal, considering he has no NHL earnings up to this point.

  9. 3.5mx8y, and somehow convince M&M to take $10m a piece, we might actually start going somewhere.

  10. Wow people really think 4.5 eh. I can’t see him getting more than 3 mill on an 8 year deal. He gets job security and the chance to play in Toronto alongside 2 of the best players in the league. And if his line mates ever change (he drops down in the lineup) his salary allows him to produce less and fit it elsewhere in the line up.
