[Chatham] Zappe makes it possible for Mac Jones to let that ankle get absolutely completely healthy, past the point of worrying about an aggravation and return trip to inaction later in the year when jockeying for playoff spots. 0.0 reason to push it. QB luxury for NE, not a controversy.

  1. Zappe and Mac were scouted the same. They’re similar QB styles and it’s good because the offense we are running and practicing is going to be similar with Mac. It’ll just feature more risks and deeper passes. But we’ve been scheming a lot of guys open. Browns aren’t a great team, but they’ve got a top defense.

  2. It’s funny how this started off with the idea that Mac should want to take his time and the Pats should get him back ASAP. Now it’s flipped where the Pats may be comfortable letting Mac heal while Mac can’t afford to watch Zappe have too much success.

  3. As well as Zappe played today, he was throwing to a lot of wide open receivers. I still believe it’s Mac’s job to lose if and when he’s healthy, but it is true that Zappe playing well means we don’t need to rush him back.

  4. You don’t have a QB controversy not even 2 years into a top 15 pick.

Some of you need to really go outside because you are delusional. A top 15 pick at QB ain’t getting replaced by a 4th round pick, let alone in 2022. Mac is a long term investment at QB and he will be the quarterback in the near future and long term.

  5. Week 11 vs the jets?

That gives him 3 games and a bye week. 3 winnable games vs average teams.

  6. Sure as shit a controversy for Jones, if he can’t out do Zappe the boo birds will be coming.

  7. I think people are underrating that we bad the hardest part of our schedule and a new coaching staff at the same time when mac was playing. He looked legit to me last year so I hope he comes back strong, but it’s also nice to have that zappe insurance.

Today was the first game I saw some legitimately impressive plays from zappe though.

Good problem to have I guess :p

  8. Wonder how Bill views turnovers- gotta be worth 6-10 swing points each? At a certain point you gotta play the numbers.

  9. Whenever I say this, some Pats fans aren’t too fond of it. The more time Mac can heal, the stronger his return. I think some have this replacement thing messing with their heads.

  10. Zappe got some love as a sleeper out of the draft. He may not be our new QB1 but he has some future in this league.

  11. This logic assume everyone has the same goal of winning games. Mac could view this a someone taking his job and push to play next week. Especially considering he didn’t go on the IR and this would be the fourth game he missed.
