[YardBarker] Eagles QB Jalen Hurts making a case for NFL MVP

  1. Certainly hope he does win it, but I’m more concerned about winning games over him winning MVP. Pretty sure Josh Allen is the favorite rn, and I can’t help but agree.

  2. The season is young, but right now it’s Josh Allen and it’s not particularly close. (And that’s not a knock on Jalen, Josh Allen is just an unstoppable football monster.)

That being said, if you told this sub back in May that Jalen would be in the conversation, we’d all be thrilled, and that remains the case. Not a lot to complain about when your young QB with every intangible you could ask for makes a big leap in his play and your team is 6-0!

That quote from Merrill reminds me how hard he was stanning for Jalen last year, he was his number one fan; he is probably loving what we’re seeing this year, and rightfully so!

  3. I really wanna see more games where he’s pushing the ball. I don’t blame him for not. Offense has chugged along regardless. But I just haven’t really seen him win us a game in a little while

  4. He’s got a really easy remaining schedule. It’ll be interesting to see how the MVP voters go if he has the best record at the end of the year.

  5. Im just happy for him and this team that he’s even being considered. This makes his improvements as a player all the more visible. However, I doubt he cares and we shouldn’t either, as long as they keep winning that’s all that matters in the end.

  6. Josh Allen wins MVP, and because it’s illogical to think that the MVP of that year also wins the Super Bowl, eagles beat the bills in the Super Bowl. The story writes itself

  7. I personally don’t think Jalen Hurts should be a serious NFL MVP candidate at this point. Don’t get me wrong, he’s had a very good season up to this point (though he’s been more solid than spectacular the last three games). But when I think “MVP”, I think of someone who if you removed that guy from the team and replaced him with an average caliber backup, his team would be significantly weaker and not nearly as good.

This year’s Eagles team so far has been mostly solid all around; both the offense and defense have really played well and have had many standpoint performers. (The special teams could be better, but that’s a side issue.) The Eagles’ 6-0 record has been a true team effort where many guys are carrying the load, Hurts included. If Hurts went down with injury (obviously hopefully he doesn’t), I think the Eagles, while weakened, could weather the storm and still be solid and very competitive with most of the other NFL teams.

Similar thinking as what I outlined above is why I thought it was a little nuts, both at the time and in retrospect, that Carson Wentz was considered a serious MVP candidate in 2017 against the Rams. Like this season, the 2017 Eagles had many standout performers including Wentz; they won as a team. But I (honestly) thought at the time the Eagles could still win many games with Nick Foles at quarterback due to the good team around him (and because Foles was IMO a good backup). We all ultimately saw what happened the remainder of that season.

  8. I think he finishes 2nd behind Allen, which is quite respectable. I think he has a good chance of finishing ahead of mahomes

  9. Hurts needs a few blowouts before catching up to Allen imo. But I’m a former hater turned believer so what do I know.

  10. All I was hoping for this year is that he showed enough to prove he’s an NFL QB and that we can build around him.

    This is all gravy.
