I love this guy. Drafted in 2014 by the Phillies, debuts in 2017 and then has one of the most memorable at-bats in Phillies history this post season . Sure, he’s no “superstar” to the rest of the league, but, in my book, he’s definitely a hero for Philly.

  1. One of my favorite memories of the dark years was seeing one of Rhys’ rookie year tear homeruns in person. That and being there for his opening day HR the year of Bryce’s signing

Rhys is not the best player, but he was one of the few bright spots for me during some tough seasons. It means a lot to have him on this team

  2. My Rhys jersey is getting a lot of love right now. Bought it 3 years ago in 2019. My grandfather joked with me I should have bought a JT jersey cause Rhys will be gone in a year. Boy oh boy is he still here.

  3. Rhys is what it means to be a Phillie. He never stops working hard. We’d be much harder on him if he ever just gave up when he’s down, but instead he pulls up his boot straps and keeps going.

  4. People were clowning Rhys and Schwarbs for a slow start in the playoffs and now they’re murdering pitchers.

  5. Love Rhys. I’m so used to him at first base. Would be missed by me if for nothing more than nostalgia.

  6. He is gonna be a legend of this team, this is just the beginning. We’ve got Rhys for years to come

  7. Dude has the grit to be a Philly player, the city has given him a lot of crap for his defense which is fair at times. He never let it get to him though, he never gives up.

  8. Rhys has a special place in my heart because of his mom. I lost my mom to cancer too when I was young. I cried when he spiked the bat and when he hit the dinger against Darvish last night. I can’t stand when the fans boo him. He’s all heart! The DH is his ticket.

  9. Rhys Hoskins is part of the core that makes up this great team — Harper, Hoskins, Schwarber, and Realmuto. These guys are the leadership, the heart and soul of this club.

When the clowns at Comcast Sports and WIP start to get down on Hoskins for slumping, I just laugh. What people don’t understand is that this guy just keep coming back at you, again and again. Sure, he may go into slumps from time to time, but when he gets hot again, he can carry a team by himself. And when all four of those guys get hot at the same time — Look out! It is a thing of beauty.

Consider this: Over the past six seasons, the Phillies have enjoyed Rhys Hoskins’ contributions for less than $15 million…TOTAL! They got him cheap all these years. They better get ready to negotiate to make him a Phillie for life. If they don’t, he’ll likely still be hitting tons of HRs at CBP, except it will be against the Phillies for another team.

  10. Rhys and Nola help ground this team as some of the only guys we drafted. Guys like Harper and Wheeler are getting the spotlight (rightfully so) but the fact that those two are having their moments in these playoffs make me so happy.

  11. He’s definitely one of those guys that, for better or worse, is a Phillie through and through.
It reminds me of how I felt about Jalen Mills. Sometimes he messed up, sometimes he made great plays, but dude was 100% an Eagle and I LOVED him.

Edit: I meant Jalen Mills, I wrote Jalen Hurts.

  12. To me, he’s the best example I could ask for my 11yo son – tries hard, makes mistakes, has bad stretches, never gives up, comes up big when it matters and is just a top notch guy. It’s hard to drive home “work hard and keep getting better” looking at Harp or JT because they make it look so easy. I love that my son chose to play first because of Rhys and wears his jersey to school 3x a week. If he leaves my boy will be crushed and I will be too.

  13. I love him too and I’m so glad he’s turned it around this postseason. He embodies the journey this club has been on for years. And he might have the best personality of anyone on the team.

  14. He’s the successor to Pat the Bat. Homegrown slugger who we thought at first might be The Guy, didn’t quite get there but instead became a crucial player in a World Series run.

  15. I have a Love-Dissapointment relationship with Rhys. Nola and Rhys where the two players I latched onto after the 07-11 era was over, it means everything to me that they are still here and contributing this much to this run.

I LOVE RHYS BECAUSE HES GOT THAT DAWGGGG IN HIM.

  16. I remember in 2016 reading Phightens watching him chase the home run record set by Ryan Howard that was one of the most enjoyable summers I’ve had being a Phillies fan during that awful era of teams. I thought from that moment he had something to him and he could do something special in this city and I’m so happy they have stuck with him to where he is now

Side note. Dylan cozins was neck and neck with him that summer he was an awful lot of fun to watch too

  17. Phils may have won what, 2-3 more regular season games if their ***team*** defense was statistically substantially different than it was. What good would that have done? Not a lot.

Errors are really visible & often sting for the moment. But since defense is in the main, in reality, for major league teams, more than good enough to compete, fan reaction to defense is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay disproportionate to its actual contribution to a team’s success – or failure. So of course it’s the classic wrong thing for the stereotypical addleheaded Phillies fan to latch onto.

  18. I am taking some heat for saying he deserved MVP, along with a lot of agreement, IMO , the Phillies ruined him at the major league level, the all or nothing swing for CBP, and not improving him as a fielder to play first base, I really like him , but think the writing is on the wall, with the big FA signings last offseason. I also wonder how we still have another year of salary control , yet the Nats had to shed Soto already?
