49ers Culture As an UK fan, I really want to go to Levi’s Stadium and spend time with the Faithful there. Before that, I want to know some things about going to the game ( e.g. Celebrating TDs, mocking enemy teams, etc)

  1. Generally, it’s much safer to mock opposing fans when you’re at home versus on the road lol.

  2. American football is a lot less regimented an experience for supporters attending in person than European soccer. There’s no chants to learn or anything, anything you need to know will be rapidly picked up at the game.

I kind of wish we did make up songs like they do in Europe, though, because I’d love to imagine what kind of shit we would’ve come up with to taunt Russell Wilson or Aaron Donald over the years.

  3. Be loud when we’re on defense, quiet on offense. Hope you enjoy your trip here I think you will have a great time!

  4. It’s all pretty guided and easy to follow. Player intros you yell last names, first downs you make a sound, defense(especially 3rd or 4th) just make noise.

  5. The biggest problem is overconsumption of alcohol. For example, I used to have season tickets at Candlestick in the upper deck, and during a Raiders game two plastered dudes just started beating the shit out of each other. Nobody could separate them, and neither could security, so eventually the cops had to arrested them both. As he was being put in brackets, one the guys told the police “It’s ok! He’s my cousin!” Still got taken away, though.

  6. Before kickoff they always play a corny video clip from the movie 300. Something about “I brought more soldiers than you.” Then they introduce the “AWOO AWOO” chant that you’re supposed to do after every 49ers first down. It’s dumb.

I recommend getting some Gordon Biersch garlic fries (chips) while you’re there. They’re fucking great.

  7. -Yes celebrating touchdowns is encouraged.

-Mocking opponent’s fans is ok but don’t take it overboard. In the UK there are visiting fans section but in the NFL both fans can sit with each other and usually without problem unless you mock them.

-On 3rd down….do not yell and cheer the team on. Candlestick was notorious for this.

-We hangout in the parking lots before games and encourage alcohol and food consumption. Just because. Also it is cheaper than in the stadium.

I know I’m missing a lot more but these are the ones that I can think of.

49ers fans for the most apart are pretty classy.

  8. i went to a game at candlestick with an irish guy visiting. he was the loudest one in the section. he was in the upperdeck yelling, “ yeeeaaah thats right you bloody wankas!!” the entire crowd was cracking up with laughter because how can you get mad at that. we beat the bills 35-0 and he was going nuts lol. as long as its not over the top. you can totally talk shit to opposing fans but be mindful that kids are there and drunks. so someone is bound to get upset or annoyed. but have fun buddy! remember every first down we do the 300 chant. “ aoooo! aoooo! aoooo!” go niners!

  9. I went to aus vs eng match of the rugby world cup at Twickenham back in 2015. It got quite annoying having to sing “swing low sweet chariot” every 2 minutes.

It would be cool though to have a fight/taunt song at NFL games…. used in moderation.

  10. Man, Levi’s gets rocking. Just make sure you sit on the home side to avoid getting burnt to a crisp.

As a an Gooner living in the bay, it’s a dream of mine to see the Arsenal at the Emirates. One day. Hope you get to see the Niners one day too.

  11. Seahawks- Seachickens
    Rams – Lambs
Cardinals – I call Kyler Midge McMidgetson
Cowboys – Cowgirls or Reverse Cowgirls
    Ravens and Chiefs – GFYS

  12. Make some noise when the opposing offense is on the field – from when they’re in the huddle until they snap the ball.

Be quiet as a mouse when our offense is out there. If we make a big play it’s OK to cheer, but go back to quiet mode before the next snap.
