  1. At least we’re numb to our defense playing poorly besides half of last season. Only reason this hurts more is because we had hope lol

  2. Joe Barry is fucking incompetent. You could trade for an All Pro and he would find a way to fucking squander the talent in his ineptitude.

MLF is bad at a number of things seemingly, but picking a staff is very high on the list.

  3. im concerned with all three of WR, defense, and oline. id prefer to get WR/OL in trade deadline, but honestly dont see anything happening

  4. Tbh it’s on the players as well as Barry. Way too many missed tackles this year. Stokes Savage these two guys don’t have excuses for sure.

  5. We accept that trading for players isn’t the answer because there are major systemic and talent issues with this team. We need draft picks, not rental players at the expense of picks. This isn’t a good team. Need to rebuild.

  6. Excellent point. There was a win or two left on the field. How that clown in DC managed to complete those wild throws still baffles me

  7. The offense is a question of talent and investment. They need more pieces to have a chance.

The defence they’ve invested an insane amount in, but hiring Joe Barry was a stupid move. MLF desperately needs to learn how to recruit coordinators, I don’t know if he’s easily won over by people who interview well but have a poor track record, but he’s doing something wrong.

They’re trending in the wrong direction, but some of the ‘effort’ on Sunday was dreadful given the context.

  8. The thing that gets me about the defense, it’s not like individual guys are getting beaten. There’s always someone completely wide open like they weren’t even assigned coverage

  9. I do believe this and it’s concerning. There has been way too much invested on the defense for them to be playing this poorly. I expect Joe Barry to be fired this offseason, hopefully we have another year of Rodgers and the defense we were promised.

  10. Y’all need to understand Barry was the DC for the 0-16 lions and only has a job because he’s the son in-law to Rod Marinelli. He’s a absolute pathetic DC who has never been even average at his job in his whole career

  11. I think the game plan for the last 10 years was to build a defense where it doesn’t require the offense to score 40 a game to win.

Well the defense stinks, and the offense has been deprived of talent. So now that’s why the packers team looks so bad. Under performing defense, players that aren’t in the league, and no offensive talent anywhere…

  12. The issue with the defense is Joe Barry. He’s the perfect example of why you don’t hire your friends, especially if that friend has a track record of being bad at his job. I don’t understand how Barry is even a coach in the NFL after going 0-16. Having a team not win a single game should be an automatic expulsion from the league.

  13. Winning in today’s NFL is all about adjustments. If you don’t make any to take away what you opposing team is succeeding at, then you will lose. This is why Joe Barry needs to be fired.

Week 1 vs the Vikings, he did nothing to stop JJ from going off even though he had the best DB in football. The Giants openly mocked the Packers in a post game interview saying they ran so many bootlegs because they were working and the Packers did nothing to adjust. And then the Bills have S. Diggs, a premier WR and guess how many times they put Alexander on Diggs? Zero is the correct answer.

    Joe Barry needs to go.

  14. Coaching. I think if we got a different coach, we’d see an instant uptick in our performance. You don’t want to do it mid-season, but honestly, I don’t know how our running defense could get much worse.

I think the vast majority of our defensive issues are coaching and adjustments. We have almost the same roster as last year, and I’d argue we improved in some areas too. It’s sad really

  15.

The WR room is embarrassing. Truly, everyone talks how “this is because we dont have Davante” yes, we don’t anymore, we also don’t have MVS, which in my opinion was a huge mistake. We have effectively given up the middle of the field, and will continue to rely on boundary plays.

Our line played better in the second half of buffalo, and i see a recipe to increase continuity. Run. The. Ball. Pass protection got much better after having an effective series of run blocking. (TD Pass to Toure)

Defense, I just see alot of mental mistakes, alot of bad football. All that talent, and I dont care about when we drafted them or free agents, we’ve all seen how dominate each member of this squad can be, yet, where’s the juice? Wheres the adjustments? Wheres the pressure? It feels like it left with Zadarius Smith, whom were paying to lead the NFL in sacks for another team (great decision front office smh)

    So in conclusion,

Selling your future isn’t working out for Tampa Bay or LA, and outside of an AJ Green trade, I don’t see the packers doing jack shit.

The Packers have deeper issues, its a locker room culture issue, its an energy issue, even Rodgers said post game there was an energy issue for a few weeks prior going into Buffalo, and it needs to come from the leadership to change it.

  16. Saturday on ESPN this morning said we miss Z because of his energy and leadership. While I’m not advocating for Z to come back, I do think there’s some truth to his statement in that we don’t have a leader or anyone bringing energy to this defense. They look deflated and more and more frustrated each week. I agree with everyone that Barry sucks, and I would add, if he wasn’t able to instill some energy and have someone step up as a leader by now, I don’t see it changing before the end of the season. I love Jaire, but I really wish he would step up and get this defense refocused. I get the impression he’s just as frustrated as the rest of them.

  17. The 4D chess continues. Opponents will think the defense is crumbling just in time for the defensive backfield to start playing lights out against pass-happy teams. We will feast!

  18. Joe Barry, March 2021: “I’m not making a bunch of promises, but I’ll promise the guys will tackle.”

November 2022: PFF gave the #Packers their worst tackling grade of the season against Buffalo. They missed 16 tackles, a new season high. (PackerScribe on Twitter)

The focus on scheme is over-blown. If these guys could tackle then we’re 4-4 or 5-3. But that’s like saying ‘if our WR could separate’, ‘or if our line could block better’. It’s fundamental stuff we’re doing badly, and there’s clearly a big problem on the D getting them motivated and all playing to 100%. That’s a serious concern.

But as I posted in another thread, there were concerns about the tackling ability of Stokes & Savage during the draft process. They are borderline liabilities tackling in the open field this season, and if it’s something MLF and his coaching staff take seriously then the FO need to draft guys who can tackle better too. Savage shouldn’t be starting any more.

  19. Imagine styling yourself as super contenders and then hiring Joe “0-16 with the lions” Barry as your defensive coordinator. Fucking insane.

  20. Nothing can be done, the talent is clearly there. The coaching is the problem. But you can’t nuke the defensive coaching squad mid season. So we are stuck with what we have.

This is exactly why I said we should have just gone all in on offense the last few years and let Aaron try to win it for us. But no, we drafted lots of defense and a backup QB

  21. Darnell Savage has been bad. Year 1 and 2 savage was a monster who was flying around everywhere trying to make plays. Now he’s a Docile Cat. Quay Walker has looked awful, he’s known for being a downhill tackler, 5 sacks in his career in college, a blitz guy, who athletic intangibles that will translate to the NFL, he’s out there acting like a safety and pushing coaches. Barry has no idea how to create a defense for his personnel. It’s why I again say, I don’t give a shit who the coach is, who is calling the shots, if you have a guy who tries to make players do what he wants instead of creating a gameplan for the guys he has, it’s going to be a failure every single time.

  22. We don’t play hard, we don’t play physical, we don’t blitz and we just try to not let teams score too quickly. You can tell the players aren’t engaged and don’t want to play for this DC. Just once I want to watch a nasty defense with some attitude.

  23. Rodgers had 74 yards total partially through the 3rd quarter vs the Bills and we were down 3 scores. Then we got a lucky open deep ball into the end zone. The offense is NOT improving. We need help on offense to be remotely competitive moving forward. Most top teams have 3 or 4 better receiving options than our best receiver.

  24. I love MLF but this defense is a product of him as a HC. He can tell Barry to change the scheme or switch something etc, he either doesn’t or likes what’s on the field. Same thing with ST all these years, he allows the ineptitude and under performance.

  25. It doesn’t help when they’re out there all game because the offense can’t do jack squat. I’m not sure how they stop the run when they brought in guys to do exactly that. Honestly I think the team is missing the energy. They don’t have many guys that can change the momentum by themselves. Davante kinda was that guy on O.

  26. Good thing LaFleur hired the guy who got fired by his father-in-law mid-season for being goddamn awful at his job

  27. I don’t understand this logic. Over the last few years, people (myself included) were made fun of for saying we needed one more WR. I would hear things about how many points we scored in the regular season (but we all know regular season stats only get you so far). We USED TO BE just one player away from transforming from an NFC Championship-losing team to a Superbowl-winning team. Now, WE ARE NOWHERE CLOSE to that level. Look at our upcoming games and consider how we’ve played thus far: it’s possible we win 3-4 more games. Adding one more WR right now is futile. The time to have done this was when Jordy left.

  28. Since 2011, the Packers defenses have been either mediocre or bad despite going defense in round 1 every single year (except the Jordan Love pick) and using most of the 2nd rounders on the D as well.

During that time we have gone through 3 Defensive Coordinators and completely turned over the defensive roster.

The only constant is the defensive scheme and the mindset of the guys doing the drafting, Ted and now his protege Gootey.

Might be time for the Packers to look OUTSIDE THE ORGANIZATION to seek help on how to construct an actual top 10 defense.

But who we kidding, Gootey just got extended and his yes men in the scouting department are getting him just the type of players he wants.

We do what we do and we like our guys.

  29. You have a world class QB and you give him no weapons (draft, trade or FA) and at the same time you draft heavy DEF and hire a bozo as a DC. Easily the worst WR group in the last 25-30 years. This is all on Gute.

  30. If we can match the intensity from last Sunday, this defense is going to be just fine moving forward. But to answer the question properly, we focus on run stop

  31. In my dreams Bill Belichick seeks rest from HC duties and joins our staff as DC and we never allow another point again.

  32. If we’re going to make a move we would want to get a stud DT who can take pressure off Clark – or make plays when Clark is doubled. We get washed out up the middle far too much.

But yeah the scheme has been atrocious. It’s been pretty much brutal in every game this season. Alexander has made some comments about it – not too hard to read between the lines.

  33. This is what I call a distraction, ladies and gentlemen. Guess what, the defense might figure it out and offense would get rolling and this team will get its shit caved that figures out how to choke the run in January (this sounds very familiar). Then we’ll think, we should’ve gotten a WR, oh well, there’s always next year.

  34. Lmfao that SF playoff game last year saved his job. Our defense looked alright at best the entire season then they play the game of their lives against SF. We all thought it was pointing at signs to come

  35. Guys are out of position on damn near every play. Gaping holes in the defense would be an understatement. Coaching is part of the problem but the players aren’t able to execute at all
