  1. Nick Krall already said no plans to spend in free agency so we’re not linked to any of the top 25 mentioned in the article.

The Reds have been looking for a shortstop and Correa is that but he’ll get a 10yr/ $330m deal. Makes me wonder at what point would the Reds ownership spend? This upcoming free agency has a lot to offer at very key positions and the contracts players are going to get would last through even a rebuild. It’s nonsensical to not go after some players because their value would exist via trade down the road still. The Reds have the money THIS year to spend and will have the 3rd lowest payroll by next season in the MLB if they don’t spend further. Only the Athletics who are probably going to move cities, and the Guardians, who have ownership issues but a good general manager and front office/well run minor league organization. So, leaving the Reds who aren’t competing like the Guardians, and aren’t subject to move cities — just what acceptable excuse is there…I see none.

In a year from now, the 2023-2024 offseason will have less talent. Sure Shohei Ohtani is a free agent, but he’s not signing in Cincinnati. The best shortstop available will be Tim Anderson and he isn’t the game changer Carlos Correa is. Outside of those two players (Ohtani, Anderson), the most players I see would be Jack Flaherty and Cody Bellinger.

We actually have the minor league depth and roster talent to sign a player now. This is something we did NOT have when the Reds signed Mike Moustakas and Nick Castellanos. They tried to force their way into a competitive window but now and ended up getting their fingers slammed down on as the window immediately shut. But now they are actually ready to spend.

Castellini‘s need to answer for their inept ownership decisions already, and do not let their son fool you. Cincinnati baseball is going nowhere, it’s them that will get the boot. With the new playoff brackets, you have ten teams going to the playoffs of the thirty currently in the league; one in the Philadelphia Phillies who were a 2nd team wild card birth (the last team in the NL to make it into the playoffs) and they are TWO games away from winning the World Series.

Guess what the Philadelphia Phillies did when they were in the Cincinnati Reds position several years ago? They signed Bryce Harper. Even when they weren’t competitive, because they had the minor league depth, and they planned on being competitive. If the Reds spend no money this off-season this fanbase should be even more upset than last year. Fans suffered through a grueling season to obtain the depth and now the fans deserve payback…the time isn’t in the future, time is now and the clock starts as soon as free agency begins. You spend now so that the competitive window for your minor league talent is met with already established MLB talent.
