  1. Would love to see him get a serious shot with the Flames. I really think he has the talent to be “NHL-Level”.

  2. He seriously needs a shot in the lineup, but I just don’t think Darryl would play him unless someone comes down with an injury.

  3. I know he’s tiny but he was a stud in the pre-season. I don’t know why the Flames seem to be reluctant to bring him up. I guess he doesnt fit the design of our 3rd and 4th lines…

  4. We HAVE to give this guy a serious shot in the chel. He fits into a top 6 winger spot, he’s been tearing it up in the AHL, and he’s a local talent. It’s literally perfect. He’s just small but who cares, he’ll learn quickly how to defend himself like Mang and Dube have.

  5. Calgary needs gritty two-way forwards with limited offensive upside, not players who can score goals, put up points and help win games.

    /s

  6. This guy should be on our third line for at least one game, and rookies always seem to benefit from playing with Backlund. We’re a franchise that rode Johnny Hockey for many years, what more can Phillips do to earn the same chance?

  7. We have multiple forwards who aren’t contributing anything to the team right now.

I don’t see what the Flames have to lose by calling this guy up?

I forgot how much I hated Sutter’s obsession with plug veterans. Gets old quick when the team is playing like it has been.

  8. How many times do we have to be “inspired” or “surprised” by undersized prospects who excel in lower leagues coming up and excelling in the NHL.

At a certain point do you reflect on players like St. Louis, Savard, Paul Byron and Gaudreau (just to name players with Flames history) and conclude that undersized values tend to be considerably more valuable than you expect them to be?

I get that you don’t want to be bullied in the playoffs, but isn’t it more important to score more goals than the other team?

    Frustrating.

    Give Matt Phillips a shot.

  9. Just give him a shot, what’s the worst that can happen, we lose another couple of games? Best case we fill a glaring need internally, which is the literal point of a farm team and prospects. It says a lot when we are the only NHL team to not graduate a prospect since 2018.
