> The Nets changed course from their initial plan to hire Udoka due to several factors, multiple sources with direct knowledge of the decision-making told The Athletic.

>These factors include an investigation and due diligence process by the Nets into the suspended coach taking longer than initially expected, the outcry after word of their plan became known to people outside and inside the organization and the short- and long-term question marks around the team’s ability to contend in the Eastern Conference as a result of the indefinite suspension of Irving.

  1. Let’s be honest, it was entirely the backlash they received from the public, there’s no way they did their due diligence in such a short amount of time

  2. I think it’s clear either Tsai and people within the org outside of basketball operations stepped in and said we can’t do this. Or the league stepped in, Ime made too much sense from a basketball stand point.

The other angle that is super interesting is we didn’t extend JV long term as a coach which makes me think this is going to be revisited in the summer with his potential come back with the Nets. The only other team that will probably fire their coach are the Sixers and they would probably not touch Ime either which makes him open in the summer.

One thing not mentioned in this post is that Shams noted that the Nets were thrilled with the buy in from the players under JV as the coach since Nash was fired. Which is actually totally true, we are only 2-2 under JV but good lord the difference in quality this team is putting on the court is night and day. Could easily be 3-1 if a couple free throws go our way. So that is exciting and makes me think the locker room actually really like JV and want to go out there for him.

Lastly the contention part is easy to read into as oh this teams not good need to blow it up yayayaaya, but that reads a lot more of just the Nets just simply are not sure if they can rely on Kyrie which is like the most obvious statement on the planet lmao.

  3. > The Nets changed course from their initial plan

Lol implying they had a plan and don’t just react to tragedies of their own making

  4. I have no evidence to support this but I think someone in the Nets FO leaked the possible Ime hire to Woj so the backlash would kill it as a possibility.

  5. Wait, I thought Nash leaving was mutual. Now, we hear they were talking to Udoka 24-48 hours before he left?

  6. He dodged a bullet. You don’t know when kyrie is playing again and you know for sure he isn’t play in Brooklyn next year and when he walks in free agency your team is still over the cap so you can’t replace the talent your losing. You also don’t know when KD is gonna request a trade again and then you have Ben Simmons who is the running for worst contract in the league. He’s better off riding this suspension out and seeing what’s available this summer.

  7. Part of me loves how fucked up the Nets are. I know it’s wrong but it’s so entertaining.

  8. I’ll be honest as a KD fan, I would have loved to see Udoka take over as coach. I can only imagine Silver has stepped in or had a quiet word because he’s by far the best candidate.

this is some high tier bungling lol

  10. Nets got really lucky this got leaked. They were able to see the backlash and avoid a fairly large mistake.

  11. It’s crazy Nash stood up for Nazis only to be getting stabbed in the back the whole time lol

  12. Lol & watch it backfire, Vaughn is NOT A GOOD COACH & the team will be a 1st seed exit, Udoka would have made this team a CONTENDER SMH

  13. Wouldn’t the Irving/Udoka pairing made the most sense? I just hope all these cats can find their way so we can enjoy some good basketball this season.
