  1. This sucks. I was a huge fan of him and his work on YES. I had always wished he stayed on longer. As the quotes said he was very professional and I thought he had a great, soothing voice and delivery. I remember turning on YES for the first time and seeing him. He was not that old either. RIP. 😔

  2. RIP to Fred Hickman, a genuinely great sports anchor. I grew up watching the Jason Kidd-era Nets when Fred did the pre- and post-games. I always made sure to tune in whenever he was on, and especially to see his immediate reaction after wins. One of my favorite stats he covered after a dominating Nets victory was when he said that “Everyone who played tonight [for the Nets] scored,” as he wrapped up the post game. To him it was just another stat to cover for a show, but for some reason it stood out to 13-year-old me and I have not forgotten about it. When he made the jump from YES to SportsCenter, it truly was like seeing a beloved friend go from AAA to the Majors. His voice will be remembered forever.
