Luka Doncic tonight: 24 points on 9/29 FG, 2/11 3PT, 4/7 FT

Luka had an atrocious night, missing 20 shots from the field as the Mavs fell to a Magic team missing Banchero, Fultz, and Anthony. With Wood out, Dinwiddie (with 29 points) was the Mavs’ only other consistent shot creator. Luka contributed 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks, but could not buy a bucket for most of the game. This is Luka’s first game this season with under 30 points.

  1. Luka is horrible in the clutch lmao. There’s a reason the Mavs are losing all these super close games and giving up big leads. Just ridiculous shot taking, thinks he’s Kobe. They need to let Dinwiddie bring it up in the clutch

  16. Damn that’s a lot of threes. And here I am wishing Shai would take at least 3 a game. Honestly I feel like if Luka cut down on some of those he would be even more deadlier.

  22. Thought the Magic played some great defense on him, and he also took a lot of bad shots. 32 foot 3’s over Bol isn’t gonna help you win.

  23. Good lord he was so bad, 37% TS , he was 63.2% TS before this game and now hes at 60.4% TS .

    Literally removed him from the argument for 1st place MVP for now.

  28. He shot badly, but so did everyone but Dinwiddie pretty much. Magic played him the best of any team so far.

    I disagree with him *playing* badly though, by the time he came back on in the 4th the Magic already had steam and Mavs weren’t effective anymore, he wasn’t churning out worse possessions than we were having before at all. Games like this are why the second star conversation happens

  29. This is definitely one of those games you wish Wood wasn’t injured as he could have taken possessions out of Luka’s hands

    That said, Luka could have deferred to Dinwiddie more, as even though he makes the most boneheaded of decisions, he was efficient.

  30. Not a fan of Luka but honestly these type of games will happen to the best of them. It’s a long ass season.

    Absolutely unstoppable and dominant for a stretch of games, and then has a game like this where they refuse to stop shooting regardless of how much they’re missing.

  40. This kinda stuff right here is why I think Luka is so overrated. He scores monstrous amounts because he takes so many god damn shots. Like guys like AI, he doesn’t even need to be efficient to put up 30 points because he takes like 30-40 fucking shots a game

    No doubt, Luka can still rebound and pass well, those attributes I have nothing to say against. But its clear his scoring is elevated by being the entire focal point of that offense. It doesn’t feel like a Rockets Harden scenario either, because Harden could shoot like crap and that team would have a chance if they showed up, but if Luka doesn’t show up the Mavs are fucked

    Just seems like an offensive scheme centered around one player that gets you to around a 4-5 seed and nowhere further. Not sure that deserves “top 3 in the league” level hype

  41. Chuma Okeke is a beast on defense was clamping when the Warriors played Orlando too. If he could consistently hit 3 pointers he’d be one of the best role players in the league

    Every game he misses this year they’ll lose
