> “Obviously I’m not with the Canucks anymore, that’s not a secret,” said Doerrie. “Thank you to whoever decided that making that public was a good idea. Obviously I can’t say anything. It’s public knowledge I’ve retained Peter Gall as my attorney. I’m really confident with him. He’s been absolutely fantastic. I can’t say anything right now.

A lot of weirdos on Twitter trying to insinuate there was some nefarious shit going on. Spicy drama, whatever you want to call it. Looks like more a contract dispute.

    Can you blame them?

She was touted as a great hire/get by the organization and unceremoniously fired after a few weeks. We won’t know the truth until the legal proceedings are over but I can understand where people come up with their ideas.

I’m sure there’s more dumb shit out there but the only one I saw making it seem spicy was her own moms tweets saying something stupid like “the truth will come out”.

The girl broadcasts everything on twitter and is surprised her getting canned was public, well normally if you didn’t choose to make your life so public no one would have even known who you were. She chose to actively become a public figure and is annoyed at the consequences of those choices – airing those annoyances publicly…

Maybe we can just block any further posts from her from the sub. It’s just drama mostly drummed up from her own tweets.

  3. Since this issue has happened, there really hasn’t been anything from Doerrie or the Canucks. The most vocal fans are split into two distinct groups of varying weirdo-ness.

One group wants to use Doerrie leaving as a condemnation of the Canucks and how they have been run. They see this as a continuation of the bad faith stuff during the Benning years with Linden and Brackett and the like, leaving under bummer circumstances. Lots of conjecture on who is possibly poisoning the office with no real proof.

The other group never liked Doerrie and see this parting of ways as a vindication for them. Either they had problems for “Jim Benning is gluing macaroni pieces” podcast line from years ago, or just tend to side with the team when there is conflict. Seen conjecture things from “made a pass at a player” to “not good at her job” to “leaked information”. Even some incel-esque “attention whore!” stuff.

It’s basically become a mirror on what you see the Canucks as. Anyways, it’s probably something much more boring than what either party wants it to be.

  4. Total speculation here, but if there’s an insinuation that there was some gender-based discrimination going on, I’d have a hard time believing it. In today’s atmosphere, with people that just hired a bunch of women in hockey roles… if she is suing based on that, she probably has a flimsy case and is hoping for a settlement.

    This is pure speculation.

  5. My hunch is that this is a constructive dismissal case. If this is the case, Canucks probably didn’t give her an option but to take a perceived downgrade in position and she wasn’t having it and quit and lawyered up. (Perceived downgrade includes decrease in pay, bonuses, and of course job duties in which means the company is trying to get you to quit or the employee can perceive it as that (aka constructive dismissal).

What we know is she joined as a hockey analyst in the analytics department. Less than a year later she was put into an assistant video coach role. If she was completely OK with the change and the Canucks gave her the option to accept or not, I highly doubt she quit or got let go unless there’s something else going on in which it’s fair for us not to know. If she was let go without cause, I highly doubt the folks at the organization would not give her a proper severance according to her contract or minimum ESA standards if her contract has termination without cause language.

The other possibility is that she got fired with cause and there’s dispute over this and the case would be around wrongful dismissal or the other case would be some sort of violation of the human rights code (discrimination).

Best of luck to both parties and no matter the outcome, there are learning outcomes for the organization when handling employee relations

  6. Clearly driven away from an entire industry thanks to someone deciding to make some totally unspicy drama public.

Fuck the spicy drama from weirdos. I AM FUCKING DONE WITH SPICY DRAMA. DO YOU HEAR ME!!!! NO MORE SPICY DRAMA!!! crying now.

  7. You know when a group of kids are playing with a ball and won’t let you join, so you make a big deal about how you didn’t want to play anyways? That’s basically what she sounds like here.

Honestly, why are we still talking about this girl?

Why even publish this if there’s zero new information? Just to let people know she’s doing fine? Who is this article even aimed at? Who is reading the Daily Hive and thinking to themselves “oh great, a Rachel Doerrie life update”?

If the goal was to change the narrative that she’s attention seeking and thinks everything is about her, voluntarily drawing more attention to herself before there’s even anything new to report is probably a bad way to do it.

I don’t know, man. I’ve never seen so much attention given to someone who did so little to deserve it.

  8. Honestly sometimes jobs don’t work out (it happens) and her lawyer is probably just sorting through the particulars to ensure she gets everything she is entitled to and there probably isn’t any actual worth while drama. I do feel bad her because I can imagine having to uproot her life for a job not to work out wasn’t insignificant ($$$) and to deal with a personal matter while get all the outside crap on the way out probably sucked. Good for her if she’s made peace with the situation.

She’s just caught in the weird crossfire of the Canucks org’s general disfunction, the owner’s constant “there’s always something dramatic going on with person” vibes and the weird dudes (mostly) that seem hell bent on presenting this as “karma” or want to put in her in place for some odd reason. IDK her, don’t care to, I just find the constant brigading just weird (w/o even having to “go there” and cry misogyny, like who cares about someone else’s job status?)

  9. I have *no idea* what’s gone on with this situation. I don’t think Ms. Doerrie does herself any favours with her communication style. Often comes off as combative, or at least immature. Even in this statement, she could have said less. Has to get a sarcastic barb in (“Thank you to whoever decided that making that public was a good idea”) when, given her high profile online, it was inevitable that this would get out and become a story.

Maybe she’s great, maybe she’s awful. I was skeptical of the hiring based on her lack of professionalism in prior roles, and nothing that has come out so far has changed my mind.

  10. Done working in hockey? Likely cause it’s an old boys club and it’s difficult to promote or initiate change within a culture that doesn’t like change.
