Arthur Smith on Marcus Mariota, Desmond Ridder situation: ‘There is no situation’

1. I have no problem with this quote specifically, I have no problem with the “we evaluate all positions every week and encourage competition” soundbite, all of that kind of coach’s speak is fine. It’s when, in reference to the possibility of playing Ridder, AS said “we’re not going to panic.” Why in the world would you associate playing *any* of your players with the word “panic”? What if Mariota gets hurt? Should we fans “panic” at the prospect of Ridder having to come in? Even if AS doesn’t have confidence in Ridder, why put it out there to the public? What good does that do your rookie QB? I have so many more questions that could all be answered by, “AS needs a PR coach.”
