DK Metcalf has to re-earn his WR1 status

  1. I wonder how this year will effect contract negotiations. It seemed that prior to this year he was set to make 20+ M per year for multiple years.

  2. yeah hes been one of my favorite players but he also drops way too many passes to be considered one of the top wide receivers currently

  3. I think DK and Tyler are still considered WR1A and WR1B. It should also be noted that the TE’s are used a bit more this year, which makes defenses have to decide who needs to be covered.

  4. I still think we should have traded him for picks and spent the money elsewhere this off-season

  5. I think he’s been good. He has like a 78 PFF grade. One of things Pete mentioned recently is wanting Geno to take more downfield shots to DK.

  6. This is why I laughed when some fans wanted to move off of Lockett because he’s old and make DK WR1. He’s not that. Losing Lockett would be devastating. Russ’ MVP campaign in 2019 started going down the drain when Lockett got hurt in that 49ers game.

  7. I think we all want DK to be a Julio Jones, but I think in reality he is closer to a Mike Williams. Big bodied athletic receiver, who at times looks unstoppable, but can also disappear for several games at a time and doesn’t always get open. But DK is still young and has shown lots of growth so I am happy we have him.

  8. DK *should* be an absolute weapon, and Geno *should* just be able to put the ball up there and trust DK to come down with it every time. Unfortunately that isn’t the case. As of now, DK needs to get open to make a catch. He’s good, but he won’t be top-5 level until he gets rid of the stone hands and can come down with more contested balls.

  9. I don’t stand for DK slander lol. He has some flaws no doubt. But DK is an elite receiver. He does deserve a nice big contract.

Hands: He has below average catching. He drops too many open passes. He drops too many on third downs.

Against coverages: He is significantly better against man than zone likely because of his physical profile and style of play. However, he is very good against man and elite against press. If you press him… You’re going to lose. He’ll make a catch, blow you up and get YAC. Or he’ll box you out and catch a TD if it’s in the redzone…

TD maker: DK is truly elite in the red zone. This article says there is not really anything he does at a high level, but also shows how he scores TDs at a high level haha. He is as good as anyone in the end zone. Our TD rates in the red zone the past few years were high… Partly because of Russ, but also partly because Russ was able to throw to DK

Gravity: You also can’t ignore the fact that teams have to game plan for him. He has elite physical traits that if ignored will lose you a game. He can absolutely take over. Ask SF. Ask Philly. Ask basically every team we played in 2020 haha. This says nothing, too, of his ability to take over a game mentally too. He gets in opponents heads. Remember the Walker run from just a few weeks ago… Defenders know they can’t just ignore him, keep their eyes peeled, and make plays. They have to pay attention to him.

Run blocking: DK is a solid contributor in the run game. This comes down to his size and strength for one. Obviously, smaller corners can’t get by him. But also he has a toughness and aggressiveness to his blocking as well. He will straight up take tacklers out of a play.

He’s not going to put up the targets or yards of JJ, Tyreek, Adams, Diggs, etc. because for one he isn’t needed in that way. He doesn’t have to be Devante Adams because Tyler is as elite, just in different ways. He dominates when asked to. He gets the yards when asked to. He scores when asked to. We just don’t ask him to do that at the level of JJ or Adams… Because that’s not the best way to run an offense.

  10. Ignore flair I’ve lived outside of Seattle and followed this team and the colts for years. It seems so dumb to even tweet this. DK is an animal. Lockett is an animal. You don’t need s clear cut stud if you’re winning games. The ball is going to get spread out. If DK is double teamed every game and disappears it’s because other teams recognize what he can do. Articles like this do nothing but stir the pot. Hawks are looking good. Y’all don’t big egos ruining the dynamic of this team. We dumped Russ and look what happened. Success without him. Spread the bell around and the team benefits

  11. I have said time and time again, DK can’t catch. He’s not elite by any measure other than physical stature. He loses track of the ball way too often and ends up stumbling through contested catches.

  12. Waldron’s offense seems to spread things out quite a bit. Backs, TEs, 3rd and 4th WRs have all gotten their shine. I think that Waldron needs some more time scheming for DK. It has to be better than, “just throw it up to him” shots. Isolate him and throw slant. Back shoulder him since they are always playing him off. Also Geno doesn’t really air it out deep which takes DKs biggest skill away.
