Honestly thought we would be higher

  1. Well we are one of the least penalized teams in the league so it makes sense we would have fewer complaints. Probably the only thing keeping us off the bottom of the list is that we play the Stoolers twice a year and the officials miss some of their dirty plays.

  2. Lol of course the team that the refs always work for has the fanbase that complains the most. The refs just aren’t doing ENOUGH.

  3. If it were based on subreddit comments we would be twice as high as the Chiefs on this graph. Some of the folks in here start spinning conspiracies about the refs as soon as they flip the coin.

  4. I’ll just mention this, it seems like this data isn’t normalized for fanbase size which would really skew some of these numbers and makes this chart all but meaningless. Chiefs have sustained success -> more fans -> more total complaints.

  5. Bengals fans are used to the officiation abuse. It doesn’t surprise us anymore, so why tweet about it?

  6. Titans seem like an outlier to me. And I think the Packers should be higher.

What I’m getting at is this just looks to me like the teams with the largest fan base and the most games on nation TV get the most complaints because they have more people who care to complain.

  7. The chiefs stat has to be other teams fans complaining that hits would have been flagged if they were on mahomes or Brady lol.

  8. Our team is pretty disciplined so we don’t commit enough penalties to complain. 90% of this is from when we play the Steelers lol

  9. My coach would always repeat the phrase “leave no doubt”.

Basically, if it’s 4th and 1, get 3 yards, not just one. If you’re down by 2, score a touchdown – not a field goal. If you need to get a stop, force a turnover. If you leave doubt on the field, your team becomes vulnerable to dumb calls.

That works when it comes to ruling if something was a catch, spotting the ball, ruling if something was DPI/holding, ruling if you broke the plane, etc. I will never complain about refs saying “that wasn’t a catch” because it’s on the player to leave no doubt. You know the ref isn’t on your side, so don’t put yourself in a situation where the ref decides your game.

Where that doesn’t work is allowing blatantly dirty hits from specific teams seemingly every time we play them. That is the only time I will criticize the refs.
