  1. So stupid Cale does intentionally take his ice, but he’s allowed to. He does nothing to initiate contact , he just…glides there

  2. It’s a make up call for sure. Everyone knew it was gonna happen. Just sucks they picked THAT to make it up on.

  3. That’s probably the 3rd time he has been called for that this year. It would be nice if the league explained themselves once in a while.

  4. The defender going backwards towards his own zone has “a right of way” so to speak. Attacking players responsibility to avoid contact there. Good call.

  5. This is a penalty and Cale has received it in this exact situation a few times.

Likely the same refs have seen it a few times as the game pregresses and decide to call it after seeing it be a set pattern. Watch our powerplay, when Cale swings it back to Mack, he almost always cuts at centre with Cale blocking the defenders lane. I see everyone in here saying it’s a penalty being downvoted hard but it makes sense at the pro level for refs to catch onto a set exploit.

  6. Non-biased non-colorado fan opinion here. There was a game earlier this season where a player was penalized because another dude skated backwards into him while defending the rush, very similar except there was no movement from the penalized player like there was from Makar here. Even though there was no movement the player was still penalized for taking up someone else’s ice when they could have moved.

It makes sense to me and given that call I understand this one, especially because Makar is moving, even if he may interfere accidentally. OTOH, if they had let this one go I don’t think anyone would have complained so idk.
