Is there a better bellwether for the Bulls than Zach’s three point shooting percentage?

For games in which he’s played, Zach’s average 3p% for wins is 48% and for losses its 25.4%. And the Bulls haven’t lost if Zach shot better than 36% from deep this year. Anyone else surprised by how strong this is as a predictor of wins/losses?

  1. It’s really not surprising, games where Zach is cold from 3 this season he’s generally been cold in general and jacking up ill-advised shots. So I’d say the correlation is mostly Zach playing poorly / inefficiently is leading to us losing more than anything. He’s supposed to be one of our go to scoring options, if he’s cold it makes it difficult to win unless DeMar goes nuclear.

  2. He’s like our only volume shooter, so it makes sense. Would be nice if PWill and Coby up their volume. I don’t trust Ayo, Caruso, or Javonte 3s enough to ride on them as our main spacing.

  3. The starter line up was built for Demar getting to his spot for a high % FG or a kick out to a shooter or slasher. Zach is an elite shooter and an elite slasher so his usage is gonna be high so this is probably inevitable till we get more shooting from Lonzo coming back or Pat/Ayo improving their shot.

  4. yeah his shooting has been really up and down. I hope as time goes on he can find some consistency in his game, because he has been genuinely great in a few of these games.

I actually thought his first couple of games this season were his best. He was looking for his teammates and racked up the assists. I think he is trying to find his shot right now, which is valid, but I hope he starts to highlight his playmaking skills again. Right now he is in tunnel vision whenever he has the ball, which leads to a lot of iso, which is not the right decision when you aren’t shooting well from the field.

All of this being said, his defense is definitely the best it has ever been in his career. And it has impressed me a lot
