[Jake Coyne] Aaron Gordon continues his historic efficiency: He has now shot 60% or better from the field in 10 straight games, tied for the 2nd longest streak by ANY player in the NBA over the last 40 seasons (min. 5 FGA each game).

  1. What world are we living in, lol.

Got this stat from the newsletter from the JJ Redick podcast e-mail. As a Magic fan I am stunned.

“In the second issue, I highlighted Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as a role player to watch this year. We all knew the Nuggets were going to be good; they have a two-time MVP, and Jamal Murray is finally back (though still playing himself into form). But in the loaded West, their role players stepping up was going to be crucial for them to make the jump to title contender. Caldwell-Pope has been great so far, shooting 49.4% from 3 on close to 5 attempts per game, but it’s been another Denver complimentary piece who perhaps offers their most tantalizing upside: Aaron Gordon has all the talent in the world. One of the most athletic players in NBA history, the flashes have always been there, but for a variety of reasons, it doesn’t seem like he’s ever really figured it out.

Small sample size so far, but this year it looks like that switch may have happened. Playing off of the aforementioned Nikola Jokić, Gordon is putting up career numbers in basically every stat. Shooting 60.5% from the field, with a 66.5 true shooting percentage (second only to his teammate Jokić at 69.6%) Gordon has become a true secondary weapon for an offense that was loaded already. His efficiency is reaching historic levels. As of November 26th, as[ Jake Coyne pointed out on Twitter,](https://twitter.com/BroncoSquatch/status/1596386207893622785) Gordon has shot 60% from the field in 10 straight games, the 2nd longest streak by any player in the league the last 40 years. This switch has been simple: Gordon’s cut down on his mid-range game where he was historically inconsistent, eschewing that for more pick-and-roll action with Murray has led to him being at the top of the league in points in the paint and dunks.

The Nuggets, sitting at 2nd in the West, currently are still a work in progress. Murray needs to shoot better, and it feels like Michael Porter Jr. is still working his way back into form. They’ve had some issues defensively, but with this tantalizing jump from Gordon, the seeds for a deep playoff run are starting to sprout. —Tommy”

  2. He’s in a perfect position to succeed alongside Jokic. He tried to be option 1a here and he will never be that on a successful team for any extended period of time. Role and situation are crucial to a huge majority of guys success in the league.

  3. Remember when people in r/OrlandoMagic said Chuma Okeke is/going to be better than Aaron Gordon?

  4. I mean, it’s pretty much the consensus among most NBA fans that Orlando did not put the right pieces around him and didn’t play him in a position that was compatible with his abilities. I see people in other NBA subs and on the main NBA sub calling the Magic a farm team, meaning talented players go to other teams once they are able to bc the org misuses them.

It’s no coincidence that a lot of these players pop off when they leave Orlando.

The problem isn’t the players, the problem is the org itself and AG alluded to this when he left. Now Orlando has current players (rightfully) talking shit on live streams about how the org operates.

It’s shit like this that makes me scared for players like Franz, Markelle, and Paolo.

  5. I can’t believe this with all the old school centers just dunking and put backs in the last 40 years. I watched the NBA. This cannot be possible.

  6. I would like to see the proof behind this stat. There’s multiple players that average over 60% for the entire season, your telling me none of them did it for 10 straight games?
