David Ortiz came to Boston in 2003 because the Twins didn’t want to pay a $2 million dollar option. In 2002 Papi hit .272 with 20 Homers and 75 RBI in 125 games. Papi was a clutch bat with pop. He broke out in 2002 and the Twins never even noticed. The rest is history.

  1. I don’t remember this time in his career, was this at the time considered a brutal move by Minnesota? Or was Papi a mediocre player/prospect who they thought wouldn’t pan out

  2. That’s the thing people forget (or never realized). Papi was GOOD in his last year with the Twins
