Do you guys consider the Habs and Sens rivalry a thing? I’m suprised how many Habs fans say that there is no Rivalry between the 2. But I hear a lot of Senators fans say that the Habs are the Sens Biggest rival, arguably a bigger rivalry than the Leafs and Sens.

  1. Now I understand how Thanos felt when he said « I don’t even know who you are » to Wanda.

In other words, it’s not a thing. We have other rivalries going on. You want a rivalry? Sell your team and move it to Quebec.

  2. These 2 teams have a lot of history and its clear that these 2 teams hate each other. I think the Rivalry is underrated.

  3. Habs fans saying we are not rivals is just a way to annoy the Sens fans.

Of course we are rivals. Maybe the rivalry is not as big as with Lafs and Bruins, but it’s there.

  4. i only consider 2 teams are rivals one team is dead and the other is black and yellow, the rest is just noise to get ratings and views nothing compares or comes even close.

  5. I personally like the Sens. The better Ontario team, I see them as a little brother.

I hate the Leafs with a passion. Bruins are a fun and storied rivalry I always enjoy those games. Still don’t want to see either team have success though.

  6. I remember going to see a game ten years ago in Ottawa (well on the suburb where they play anyways). Half the crowd there was cheering for the Habs and after we won, felt more like a home game than in Montreal. I would understand as a fan if an opposing team comes to your town and it doesn’t feel like home anymore, would probably create some kind of rivalry. Not sure how it is now but I still remember how much fun it was and the hour we spent trying to get out of there and on the highway in traffic just cheering for the Habs.

  7. There was a period of time when Habs and Sens met a bunch in the playoffs. It was the Prust v MacLean era (Mr. Bug-eyed Fat Walrus himself).

I remember considering the Sens as a big rival at that time, and recently there has been renewed hatred with Stutzle.

  8. I don’t know if it’s a rivalry per se but I do enjoy playing them a lot more than most teams. Probably after the leafs and boston I look forward to sens games the most.

  9. its gotten a bit quiet but I think the canadian only season renewed somewhat. they had some very entertaining playoff battles last decade

  10. It was one between 2013 to like 2015, but both teams have not been very good since 2017 so not really.

They do bug me a lot with their never ending rebuild and the hype that comes with it

  11. I think there’s a rivalry, maybe it’s cause I’m a Habs fan living in Ottawa but yea it’s not just a regular game when they play each other, somewhat recent playoff series against each other too

  12. Nope. I have a dislike for their team but there’s no rivalry. Their fans are also annoying with their constant whining about everything when we play them.

Bruins on the other hand was a good rivalry but it’s not the same anymore with the new format.

  13. It’s hard.

The leafs think of themselves as the center of the hockey universe, and in some ways that have zero to do with any results they have some points. So they are so easy to hate. Nothing to do with the actual game though cause we’ll they are embarrassing on the ice and have been basically my whole life.

    Bruins

Fuck them, that’s a rivalry, goes back generations, is what it is, fuck them.

Sens, I don’t like them, but no don’t feel those things.

  14. I feel like there’s no team I want them to beat more. The sens always give us a hard time. I hate them.

  15. A lot of Nordiques fan went on to cheer for Ottawa, from one boring city that loves Canada way to much to the other. They’re probably the ones pushing the hardest for the Ottawa-Montréal rivalry.

  16. I’d rather they moved to Quebec City so we could have a real rivalry. Their organization just feels immature for some reason, like it hasn’t grown up and has a bad inferiority complex.

  17. I hate losing to the Bruins (hate them) or the Leafs (hate their fans) and I don’t like losing to TBL (the pain of 2021) … losing to the Sens feels like losing to the Coyotes. Minor annoyance.

So, not a rivalry in my feelings.

  18. I lived in Ottawa for 5 years and they were by far my most hated team at that time. it was from 2013-18 and both teams had some good years, the peak was the 2015 playoff series (beating them felt amazing in that city lmao) but yeah nowadays nada

  19. I hate the rangers more than the sens (fuck Kreider)

I do find sens fans annoying but I wouldn’t consider them a rival. It’s the bruins and leafs for me.

If both teams would’ve lined up their successes in in the 2010’s the potential to become a rivalry was there though. Between Neil being twat, PK being disliked most places outside of Montreal, and the Gryba hit on Eller it could’ve heated up if both teams didn’t end up falling off/become wildly inconsistent. Only the two playoff series matchup weren’t enough to turn it up beyond a typical divisional type of vibe

  20. I had it explained to me by a Sens fan this way: before the Sens came back you either had a choice to be a Leafs fan or a Habs fan. After the Sens came around some of those fans switched allegiance to become Sens fans while others remained Habs or Leafs fans. As such, there are a lot of both of those teams fans in Ottawa and go to those games and it drives the Sens fans crazy.
If you are a Habs or Leafs fan in Ottawa then you probably don’t notice the Sens fans getting upset over this because you are concentrating on what your team is doing… but the Sens fans notice.

  21. It’s not really a “hockey” rivalry.

It’s more based on proximity, and doesn’t have the symbolic cultural clashes that Toronto-Montréal has. It would need continued playoff series to make it a legit rivalry, not just 2 one-offs from 7-9 years ago.

  22. Anyone pretending there isn’t a rivalry between the Sens and Habs are either proving everyone else right when they call us clowns and overcompensating or hasn’t been a Habs fan for very long

The Sens are over .500 against us lifetime and we’re 1-1 in playoff series. Going back to the early 2000’s against prime years Alfredsson these teams hated each other, and Montreal and Ottawa were constantly fighting for playoff positioning. Add the shitbag Chris Neil to any conversation, or make a fan think back to that bug eyed fat walrus Paul MacLean, brushing off the cheap shot to Eller and making the comment “he should be mad at player number 61 for the suicide pass” as if he didn’t know who Diaz was and tell me they don’t care about the Sens. Have a read through this:

I mean ya’ll re-writing history to pretend there wasn’t any intense rivalry. You can’t compare it to Boston or Toronto, literally some of the longest standing rivalries of all time going back 100 years, but with two divisional rivals so close in geographic proximity, all it takes is both teams to be good to stir up some intense hate. If that recap above doesn’t get your blood boiling a little bit then I dunno what to tell you, I straight up don’t like the fucking Sens, and never will. It’s the same as how we didn’t have a rivalry with Toronto for years because they were just *so bloody awful*. You can’t have a rivalry with a team in the cellar of the league lol. But you know as soon as both teams are good again – rivalry is on like it never stopped.

  23. yeah couldnt care less, even find myself rooting for them at times. LOL the sens wish they had a rivalry wiht someone but I dont even think Leafs fans hate them that much

  24. It’s definitely one sided. When they play the Sens they might as well be playing Columbus or Vegas. I just don’t even care a little. I’m not trying to be mean but the Habs have other…better(?) rivals.

  25. There’s way less rivalry with them than the leafs’ in my opinion club-wise in term of general banter or social media trolling. But i prefer their fans cause i never seen from them straight up hooliganism and fighting compared to the toronto ones: some of those are rabid af. Sens fans are expressive, but not toxic.

I remember my best friend when he got that away ticket for the Impact season tickets, the guide was telling them all that everyone with 0 exception goes together in the WC at half time, cause numerous times they had a couple of guys going alone or in duos getting beatup more than once. Toronto fans seems like they didnt got vaccinated against rabies, sometimes.

So in short, not really, but i’d take no rivalry over violent rivalry.

  26. it’ll never compare to Habs-Leafs or Habs-Bruins. Sens are just another random expansion franchise. I try not to think about them
