  1. Our centers are legitimately bad at defensive rebounding.

    Mitch: 16% DRB%

    Hart: 19% DRB%

    Sims: 20% DRB%

Compared that to other centers on teams who are good defensive rebounding teams:

    Jarrett Allen: 28% DRB%

    Steven Adams: 25% DRB%

    Clint Capella: 31% DRB%

    Gobert: 28% DRB%

The only saving grace is both Hart and Mitch have been decent at boxing out but i’m not sure if the trade off is worth it over them just grabbing the board.

  2. We have evolved from a defense first team to an offense first team. We gotta find a way to maintain both sides at the same time.

  3. This is excellent and contradicts SO MUCH of the *narrative* knicks media remains hyper focused on

(and shots at Obi AND Randle)

  4. Very true. We don’t finish a lot of possessions, which is irritating to see. We can make defensive stops but we get killed on 50-50 balls way too often.

Also, our Centers love to tip the ball out to the opposing players. I appreciate the hustle, but they either need to go up with 2 hands or get more help from the perimeter players to chase down loose balls.

  5. I think it’s a focus thing. The team spent so much energy over the off season on improving tempo and fast breaks that players aren’t thinking about the rebound. Watch a game focusing each possession closely for what the 1-3 are doing when shots go up. There needs to be a better situational awareness

  6. And this is why I love Alan Hahn. I’m a big fan of the eye test and Alan can do the eye test with stats to back it up properly.

  7. Just a quick look, Randle is down 1.4 defensive rebounds per 36 , and Robinson also went down in that category. This also explains some of the on/off numbers for IQ’s impact, in that he is rebounding really well for his position, that our team otherwise lacks.

Looking at you RJ, rebounding could be a really good thing to bring to the table when you’re shot is off, just sayin.

  8. When the shot goes up, find a body and BOX THE FUCK OUT.

Player with highest box out percentage gets a Phantom at the end of the season
