Verlander must be licking his chops

  1. Yeah unfortunately I don’t think Verlander is staying. He already said he want 3 years 130 mil and this contract will only make him want more

  2. JV is healthier and had better innings than DeGrom this year even when he was healthy. There’s no reason he shouldn’t get a better contract, but it just won’t be with us. The market for pitching is crazy.

  3. Sad for JV but, he isn’t Degrom. Realistically, he shouldn’t get the same AAV, it should be less

  4. No he’s not better then degrom. Degrom is the best pitcher in MLB when not injured. Astros payed 2 years for verlander and how much did he play? The real question is can Verlander still be effective on a 5 man rotation and 200+ innings. If he leaves the Astros he will have to be. Did the 6 man rotation help him? We will find out.

  5. This seems an appropriate place to note that when I was 39 I would eat $27 worth of Taco Bell at 2:35 a.m. and never gained a ounce.

When I turned 40 I would drive past the place and gain 2 pounds.

I love me some JV, but he’s about to hit a tipping point and a 5 year deal at 40 would be the stretchiest of stretches.

  6. He has won his two WS. Now it’s time for generational wealth. Not that they already don’t t have generational wealth. I don’t blame him. Astros don’t need him to win the division and earn a top 1 or 2 seed. Considering his playoff performance it’s not worth paying that much for 3-4 playoff games a year. Better to use that money to stabilize other areas.

  7. In a common sense world, Scherzer’s awful performance in the Wild Card series would have ended “the Max Scherzer contract” that Verlander wants. Some of these ace pitchers are workhorses in the regular season, and then they don’t have much left in the postseason.
