  1. I thought it was more of a defense against fan backlash. “Look, we’re trying. Don’t boo us.”

Meanwhile Cashman is secretly hoping Judge leaves so he can show the world how “good” he and his analytics team are at team-building.

  2. He’s gone. Pretty sure Jeter never saw eye-to-eye with Cashman but I feel you need to have a good relationship with the front office today. I feel like Judge will leave not because he wants to go home to SF or because of the Yankees organization as a whole but more so because he specifically couldn’t deal with Cashman

  3. He’s gonna leave I can smell it. He knows Cashman and the rest of the FO are too incompetent to ever get him to a WS

  4. I said the exact same thing when the Yankees leaked it. You keep negotiations behind closed doors. If Judge was a free agent last off season, walked and the numbers came out fine. However, to put that over his head going into the season is bad business. Probably fired up Judge hence the 62 HR season.

  5. I hope Judge stays in New York, I really do. But everything Cashman has said re: the Judge negotiations past and present just makes it seem like he’s bungling a layup. If this is his idea of negotiating, my god the Yankees need to can him.

  6. Cashman could’ve just said “we’re making every effort to bring him back” but instead went that route? AL East teams are lucky Cashman and the Yankees continue to be in this state of not knowing what they want.

  7. Contract negotiations with Jeter got ugly but he went back. $300+ million makes bad feelings go away.

  8. at the very least this sub isn’t gonna gaslight us into thinking cashman is a good GM because he got us wandy peralta and mike tauchman

  9. For all Yankees haters on this sub, Brian Cashman should be one of your favorite baseball figures.

He’s so good at killing the Yankees from the inside. Benedict Armchair GM right here.

  10. Man, what a dick move by Cashman. Judge should totally sign with the Giants or another NL team (any NL team, please) out of spite.

  11. [Also an interesting quote](https://time.com/athlete-of-the-year-2022-aaron-judge/):

    >In fact his wife, high school sweetheart Samantha Bracksieck, reminded him of a prediction he made in 2010, his senior year at Linden High School. **“I said, in 10 years, I’ll be married to Sam,” says Judge, “and playing for the San Francisco Giants.”** Judge smiles. “I was like, that’d better not get out.”

  12. >I understand it’s a negotiation tactic. Put pressure on me. Turn the fans against me, turn the media on me. That part of it I didn’t like.

And the tactic didn’t even work. I don’t remember seeing many people criticizing Judge for turning the contract down. At most people might have thought it was a little too ballsy of a move, but no one turned against Judge or thought he was being too greedy or selfish or anything.

  13. The Jeter treatment. We love you as our face of the franchise but when it comes time to nickel and dime you we’re gunna do it to death.

  14. I said before the off-season started that if cashman stays and judge walks I’m done with the Yankees until cashman is gone. They extended cashman 4 years with no merit, and if judge walks I fully intend to keep my word fuck that bum

  15. Yankees fans mad again. If he wants to play for another team, he’ll play for another team. If another team offers more money, he’ll go there. I think it was fair for the Yankees to let the fans know they weren’t lowballing Judge. Most in the industry thought that offer was more than fair and he’d have a tough time beating it.
