  1. Bruh like why would we spend more money on starters. They think our starters are just gonna completely shit the bed despite us finally having the best young guys we’ve had in a while

  2. I understand your sentiment, but rather than generally insulting r/baseball, you might be better off citing some recent stats. Their point about us not bringing in successful FA pitchers in recent years is valid. Most of our pitching talent around Ohtani has been homegrown.

  3. He’s moving the goalposts in the discussion to match his argument. That’s why he went back to 2015. People like this are useless to talk to because they refuse to acknowledge the fallacy in their argument.

  4. I know it’s popular to hate on r/baseball here but the general sentiment I’ve seen over there is that the Angels are making good moves. I wouldn’t use the example of a single dumbass to represent the whole sub. Even the guy you’re arguing with here is getting downvoted.

  5. We used a 6 man rotation. Of course our pitchers threw fewer innings than teams with a 5 man lmfao. Literally proving they paid no attention to what actually happened

  6. I love that sub but you have to have thick skin as an Angels fan. Many people hate us for our front office or have some ignorant opinion about us.

  7. Believe me I’ve been beating the “starting rotation was the only good part of our team in 2022” drum both over there and on this sub, to seemingly little effect.

Although, if we did sign Rodon, we might have the best rotation in baseball

  8. I mean don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have Rodon on this squad. But starting pitcher definitely isn’t our A1 priority right now given recent acquisitions and prospects coming up. Fingers crossed, we’re not in a bad shape if this trend continues.

  9. If we have success next year and make a playoff run, I won’t be accepting much of the bandwagoners on that subreddit. Our organization deserves a lot of heat, but they’re relentless on r/baseball. Most people claim they want us to succeed but it sounds like they’re really just recycling the same talking points from the last 5 years.

Not to mention, a lot of the backlash comes from people flaired for organizations with less success than the Angels.

  10. Angels rotation wasn’t their biggest problem last year, but he does have a point. I would like to see Sandoval and Detmers go a little deeper into games in the future. They’re still young and I know analytics say to pull starters early so we’ll see how it plays out.

  11. Hey, the Angels used to be the Cubs minor league affiliate. That’s like older brother hitting the little brother saying “Stop hitting yourself.”

  12. On one hand: we have had a historical need for consistently solid SPs. While Anderson can be a solid arm for 3 years there is concern on if he can repeat his success at a later age. On top of that there is concern about repeating the success of the end of last year and the total SP innings pitched (17th last year).

On the other hand: our pitching improved throughout the year. Our pitchers towards the end of the year pitched longer while maintaining their successful numbers (I should know I was bringing up that point all year but they turned it around starting Augustish). Even though they pitched 17th in IPs, they accumulated enough WAR to be 6th, that’s pretty damn impressive.

Galaxy brain take: using 2015 #s to argue about our rotation today. It does highlight our historical need but we definitely don’t NEED a FA pitcher right now like we did the last couple of years. It would be great to get a consistent veteran presence to go along with Anderson but I don’t think it’s a bad idea to see if your young years and cost controlled rotation can repeat their success. And if they do that opens up a big trade window with prospect pieces to grab a true ace.

Other galaxy brain take: using per pitcher IPs when we implement a 6 man rotation. 1) sounds like we will be flirting with 5 more this year with Ohtani wanting the ball more and 2) tbh I think a 6 man will lead to longevity and better pitching as a whole team (but having less “individual success” for counting stats)
