“Even with the decline, the Warriors games have been the most-watched matchup of their respective nights.”
When viewership for Warriors games is down, especially when Steph has been having the season he’s having, and they’re *still* the most watched games, that’s a massive problem. Especially when the league is getting ready to try and sell a new TV rights deal to networks/streaming services. Maybe *just maybe* this will knock some sense into the league office to get its act together with the officiating this season. There’s no way the two aren’t directly related and we all know there’s nothing the league loves more than $$$.

Probably because warriors has a rough start.
That only tells part of the story. The bigger issue is that NBA viewership I think is down across the board. No one has really explained to me why though.
Sidebar though I know this is about the national TV games but it doesn’t help that Dish doesn’t carry NBC Sports Bay Area and when we called them their only solution was to get DirectTV. I’m not changing out the whole Cable just because they can’t work it out.
But also I hope that when they do the new TV deal they work out whole new systems for viewing games at home. The blackout system seems really outdated to me and it doesn’t make sense that the local people who would probably be the people who would most want to watch their local team play have all these barriers to doing so.
Its the silicon valley down bcoz of crypto scam.
China bashing doesn’t do anything eh?
1. More streaming
2. Pandemic is less bad in that people are out doing other things more than this time last year
I stopped watching the games because of the referees
Speaking for myself Draymonds punch diminished my excitement for the season.
Nobody wants to watch ref highlights
Maybe start winning games consistently and people will come back
Blame that shit refs. Fuck the refs.
Not being awesome will do that. Can you imagine if they go on another magnificent 24 game run (unlikely). Betcha mofizzos would be tuning in then.
I’m not watching games because they screwed up league pass. I have to buy 2, maybe 3 subscriptions to watch all Dub games in Canada. Last year I could use League Pass + a VPN.
I’d happily pay like $30 per month if there was a single place I could subscribe to just see all warriors games.
Everyone was watching for when steph would take the career 3’s crown.
Refs are ruining the game
I’m not sure why but if you go to reddit NBA and here as well, feels like less people are engaged compared in the past.
Why pay when you can stream for free
Google TV blocked my VPN (Express VPN). bet this is one of the reasons that viewership is down. Can anybody recommend a VPN that hasn’t been blocked by Google TV and has an app that can be downloaded on Prime?
As a warriors fan in the southeast, home games don’t usually start until almost 11 pm here. Not to mention, the Warriors haven’t looked like a team defending a championship for much of the season.
Glad we got rid of those fair weather fans
Idk why but im not watching as much nba this season.
They’ve been scheduled multiple times at the same slot as 49ers games, or other primetime NFL games. They’ll have more attention after Christmas.
i cancelled my xfinity subscription. i watch on vipbox now lol ….i would pay for a live stream but NBA league pass wont carry warrior games for me….kinda dumb if you ask me
Can’t find them sometimes up here in Canada, unless I have NBATV. Best believe I’m watching when they’re on though
As someone who watched every single minute of warriors basketball last year, it’s a combo of the rough start, and a little fatigue for me. The start of the season was so painful to watch lol.
It hurt my soul to see Klay go through that stretch.
There is a simple reason for that: it’s gotten way harder to see Warrior games streaming.
I used to watch them all on Sling.
Frankly, Warriors games are hard to watch because of the officiating. I can’t watch the games live anymore, so I just watch the replays that cut-out the dead time. The Warriors brand of basketball is one of, if not, the most entertaining in the league. If their games are hard to watch then something is seriously wrong.
The Warriors are the most fun when they’re running, but the refs start blowing the whistle to slow it all down. I really wish the league would stop forcing wins/losses/close games and just let the games play out, but they never will. I’m not even going to touch sports betting, because that’s a whole other can of worms.
Really, just start incentivizing good officiating by giving triple digit bonuses for the refs with metrics based on fairness and a bit of entertainment (if its a physical game let them play, but don’t only call fouls against only one team and don’t let it get out of control).
All that being said, I think its a good thing the league is cracking down on traveling.
Refs have sucked every bit of joy out of their games. No one wants to watch the refs acting like traffic cops constantly sucking on their whistles
Shitty roster will do that. Make a move
Yeah I don’t like refba
they aren’t playing as well, start there maybe
I freely admit I haven’t been watching as many games as I usually do. Work went to 100 these last six months since the title win, and I just haven’t had as much free time as in years past.
wasn’t SF still somewhat locked down this time last year?
Watched a Detroit/Miami game tonight. I had forgotten how amazing basketball is when the refs swallow their whistles.
