  1. Not a great example of a good value contract for a mid-30s player….

If Xander’s 30s go like PD’s that deal is a complete disaster

  2. Thank you for making me feel better about losing Xander. Pedroia’s last five years were a complete wash.

  3. You just proved the people you are trying to prove wrong, right. Im upvoting this for the wrong reason.

  4. Lol Pedroia still isn’t as old as Xander will be by the end of his deal and he’s basically been out of the league for 5 years already…

  5. It’s funny that some people think this post’s point is to say we should have given Xander a long-term deal. I’m simply pointing out that the FO have changed their philosophies about longterm deals with players in their 30s. It doesn’t matter what their injury history is and if they are still great players at 35-40, it’s not happening anymore.

  6. What is the love affair with paying homegrown players? Some deserve to be paid, and others don’t. Devers deserves it.

  7. Bogey for 5? I could see it. But…..11? Damn man. I’m 43, and it hurts to tie my boots. He’ll be 41 at the end of that deal and most likely ending the same way Pedroia did. This one is a win for Chaim.
