  1. Team photo of the 1970 World Series Champion Baltimore Orioles. The team. included a historically great infield with the regular season MVP Boog Powell, the only man to win MVP in both the NL and AL, and a pitching staff that included 3 of the top 5 CY Young vote getters that core group would be supported by the dynamic duo behind the plate Andy Etchebarren and Elrod Hendricks, Don Buford in the outfield and eventual MVP vote getters Merv Ruttenmund coming off the bench. The team, led by Earl Weaver, would be the example of the Oriole Way for decades.

Brooks Robinson, Mark Belanger, Davey Johnson, Boog Powell. Boog Powell would win the MVP in 1970 after what can be considered the best season by and Orioles 1st baseman ever. By 1970 the Orioles infield was already very accomplished and decorated for their defensive prowess, but an underrated part of this infield is the consistency at the plate that was provided. Brooks and Belanger being the strongest defenders but weaker bats on the team still had respectable years at the plate every once in a while. Belanger was always a below average bat but for a shortstop of the era that was somewhat of a norm. Brooks Robinson was always an average or above average bat as evidence by his 15 year streak of receiving MVP votes from 1960 to 1974. A 108 win season in 1970 would not have been possible without what may have been the best infield of the entire decade in baseball.

Mike Cuellar, Jim Palmer, Dave McNally. The trio would lead a Orioles pitching staff to a world series. Mike Cuellar would make history by hitting a Grand Slam in game 1 of the 1970 ALCS. Cuellar won the Cy Young in 1969 and his follow up campaign was just as good in many aspects. Going 24-8 with 21 CG and 4 CGSO, he only allowed 115 runs all year, leading the league. Cuellar was a key peice of the Orioles success in the 1970s after coming over from Houston, Paul Richards had a hand in acquiring him in Houston and also had a small hand in sending him to Baltimore. Jim Palmer would pitch over 300 innings in 1970, and finish in the top 4vin Cy Young voting, which means along with a solid season by Dave McNally, who went 24-8 with 16 CG, the Orioles would have 3 of the top 5 CY Young finishers and the AL MVP.

Pictures from world series. The 1970 World Series will be remembered as the series that established Brooks Robinson as an all time great talent. His defensive display was a big part of why he won Series MVP and helped the Orioles rebound from the upset of 1969 to beat the Big Red Machine. Brooks has argument for worst world series performance and best world series in Orooles history maybe even baseball history in back to back years

Cal Ripken Jr in little league. the eventual Orioles legend played for the Aberdeen Little League in 1970 when he was 10 years old
