Mets’ plans for Peterson & Megill

Mets’ plans for Peterson & Megill

  1. If this was the Wilpon days these guys would be 3 and 4 in the rotation. It’s so important to have starter depth when your top 5 includes three guys who are old and one who is totally unproven in the US. These guys will get major league starts

  2. Pretty much a no brainer right? Last year we were on our 8th starter for much of the year – and still won 101 games, shout out to T-Will.

We can pretty much guess that Megill and Peterson will be in the rotation much of the year. We’re incredibly lucky to be this deep.

  3. Humberto Mejia and Elieser Hernandez are going to be interesting depth pitchers to follow. I’m curious to see what the Mets org can do with them.

  4. I know they’d rather be on the big club but injuries will happen and it’s best to keep arms stretched out. Peterson made 19 starts last year. I imagine he’ll get plenty of opportunities along with Megill. And if at some point they need relief help, they’ll cross that bridge then.

  5. MeGill and Peterson are both superior to Quintana and Carrasco. I do like the depth, though. Max and Verlander will likely miss half of the season through load management alone.

  6. I agree with this on Peterson but I’m skeptical megill will be anything more than a reliever, where I do think he’d thrive

  7. Guess a 6 man rotation isn’t happening then. Thought it’d be something they consider with their ages + Senga adjusting.

  8. Peterson needs to start in the majors I’m deadset on that. Go to a 6 man rotation if you have to but he is THAT good.

  9. Depth depth depth. You can’t have enough guys to throw some quality innings. It will happen and they will definitely contribute.

  10. Sounds good but Peterson is absolutely an MLB starter at this point and constantly dicking around with him isn’t fair to him

  11. Considering:
    – 2 of our 5 pitchers are coming from 6 man rotations
    – verlander’s numbers are much better with an extra day rest
    – the recent track records of 6-man rotations (the Astros)
    – our aging starters
    – our excess of quality starters

Can anyone tell me why we’re not considering a 6 man rotation? I mean other than eppler’s desire to shove platoons down our throat?

It seems to me that we’re forgoing a 6-man rotation, and not targeting the best relievers on the market all so Eppler can Frankenstein a DH, while carrying one of the worst defensive outfielders in baseball to be our 4th outfielder (Pham).
