Based on the needs of the teams picking 1-13, this seems like the kind of draft where some combination of Jones, Johnson, Harrison, Skoronski, Witherspoon, Gonzalez, and/or Porter Jr. will be there at 14. A real windfall for the Pats.
So Bill will trade back into the mid 20s, miss out on all of them, and draft Cody Mauch 30 picks before he should be.
Because they were talking about it on the radio; random thoughts about Andy Reid, Bill Bellichick and the GOAT coaching debate that comes up a lot…
Andy Reid has 21 playoff wins and has an opportunity to catch Belichick with 31 playoff wins (assuming Reid keeps the momentum going and Bill fails to get any more playoff wins).
I keep seeing people bring up Andy Reid in the “Bill is not the GOAT” conversation (him and Joe Gibbs) because they won a lot of playoff games with different QBs.
Joe Gibbs won 3 Superbowls with 3 different QBs. That’s a big achievement for sure but it was also done in an era where the QB was less vital to a team’s success.
Andy Reid won 21 playoff games with 3 different quarterbacks and reached a Superbowl with 2 different quarterbacks. But it should be noted that Andy Reid only won 1 playoff game with Alex Smith (who also won 1 playoff game in SF), a 30-0 beating against the Texans with Brian Hoyer at QB throwing 4 INTs. The other 20 playoff wins came with Mcnabb and Mahomes, both early 1st round quarterbacks with a combined 11 probowls compared to Brady’s 14 probowls while playing for the Patriots.
I love Andy Reid and I think he’s a definite HOF coach but people act like he was super successful between McNabb and Mahomes but he wasn’t and there was almost a full decade there.
Bill’s near “decade” without Tom comes on the Cleveland Browns, whose owner sabotaged his run just as they were getting momentum, 1 year with a healthy Bledsoe, 1 year with Matt Cassell, 1 year with Cam Newton and the past 2 with Mac Jones, many of those years just a few years removed from a Superbowl run.
We will see how the next few years go but it’s good to bring nuance to the “is Bill any good without Tom?” discussion.
