  1. USC baseball in the 1970s was a legendary dynasty. The program was already prominent and a big producer with serval established big leaguers, including Don Baylor, coming out of USC in the 60s. USC had an explosive decade of talent production and on field results. The program won 5 consecutive national championships from 1970 to 1974 and had over 20 all Americans named during that run. This run is considered one of the best in college baseball history and was led by legendary coach Rod Dedeaux. Dedeaux would actually consider a move to the Orioles organization after the 1975 season but those conversations were short lived and Dedeaux would stay in the collegiate ranks until his retirement in the 80s.

The Oriole Way was fully established by the mid 70s and had already led to much success for the major league club. The Orioles farm system was the lifeblood for team success and helped pave the way for modern player development. Eventual World Series winning Manager Joe Altobelli would move up through the system before moving on to several other organizations and landing back in Baltimore after Earl Weavers retired before 1983.

Earl Weaver was considered one of the best managers in the game during his era and his staff was a big part of his success. Frey and Staller split duties at 1st base for part of the 1974 season

The Athletics would the Orioles 3-1 en route to their third consecutive world series appearance. The ALCS would feature the Orioles or Athletics each of the first 6 years of play from 1969 to 1975 with 1974 being the 3rd matchup in 4 years between the teams
