  1. Anything to speed it up works. I can always change the channel I guess. Haven’t been to a game since Bonds played. 😂

  2. When I was young the games were 2, 2 1/2 hours to play the game. When Ernie Banks said “let’s play two” those games took 4 hours. I’d like to see three hour games. That’s what the MLB package suggests.

  3. Stupid. Please tell me the punishments won’t count when they have 3 balls or 2 strikes. I couldn’t stand to see someone strike out because they were a second late getting in the box.

  4. Keep clocks out of baseball. Fine pitchers if they take too long and let them self police. Anything but clocks. But, it’s too late now I suppose.

  5. It’s dumb, like most, if not all of the new rule changes are, but fortunately for it, it is not dumb enough to out-dumb the runner on second extra inning rule and the three batter minimum rule.

  6. 100% agree with rhe click. These pitchers AND hitters think they are abive the game taking their sweet ass time.

  7. It’s a bad rule. It’ll be interesting to see how much nonsense goes on as a result of implementing this rule and if it sticks. I don’t think it will.

  8. Dumbest crap ever, they keep changing everything about baseball I love. Who cares if some people think the game is slow and boring, that’s baseball, that’s what I grew up on. What’s next, next year MLB will have cheerleaders! Why can’t players run hard into 2nd base or home plate, that’s how the game was played

  9. It’s fine, but seems exploitable by the batter because he can waste 8 seconds of the 20 seconds with runners on by dilly dallying, giving fewer chances to hold the runner and vary timing.

The big problem is the restriction on throwing over (only 2 failed pickoffs or step offs). That has the potential of leading to a lot more stolen bases, which is fine in theory, but breaks the fundamental game between the pitcher and the runner that we’ve had for a century.

  10. I don’t feel super positive about it, but I’ll keep an open mind and see how it goes to begin with.

  11. I don’t think people will notice one the games get started went to a fort wayne tin caps game and didn’t even notice the pitch clock until the 7th inning

  12. I think these time limits are a bit harsh but I will say that some sort of clock is definitely needed. I understand messing with tempo is strategy but there are some players who take way too long to pitch or get into the batter’s box.

  13. Hopefully the clock isn’t added to the broadcast. They already have the strike zone overlay that’s distracting. I’d rather not have to keep on eye on a play clock like it’s football.

  14. It’s necessary, from the perspective of what casual fans want, which is more action, scoring, base stealing, balls in play, etc. The two other team sports in the US that matter long ago tilted the rules towards more offense. MLB is well behind the times in trying to attract casual fans. The new rules are an attempt to attract them. We’ll see if it works

  15. This is totally bullshit you will find the game is worse because timing is not the player’s

  16. I’m expecting glaring changes to the game. I’d expect players stats to change drastically. The games faster pace will bring more exciting results.

  17. It’s stupid. This is a game of strategy, coaching vs coaching, pitcher vs batter, and runner against catcher. This game cannot be controlled by a damn time clock.

  18. Watching Bruce Chen spending two minutes throwing the ball to first base 10 times as a Royals fan has made me in favor of this new plan.

  19. Anyone complaining about this rule are just stuck in their ways. Minor leaguers adjusted in a month, after spring training the pitch clock will be a non factor in games.

The hard truth is baseball is a dying sport and the MLB needs to up the pace of the game to bring in fans. Banning the shift, “juicing” the balls and adding a pitch clock all add to the exciting aspects of the game. People want to see a shortstop make a Jeter-esq play. They wanna see Judge blast a pitch 500ft. They don’t want to see a pitcher stare down a batter for a minute every pitch. I think these changes are good for the game at the pro level

  20. I think it’ll be weird to see it in the MLB… but honestly, as someone who went to a lot of minor league games last year, you really don’t notice it…

  21. One of the most beautiful things about baseball was the fact it had no clock. No timer. Games could potentially last forever. This rule change will fundamentally change how the game is played, and imo, not in a good way

  22. It’s stupid… Baseball has always been a game without a clock. It should stay that way.

If you want to cut game time, how about cutting 2 30 sec commercials in every 1/2 inning… Game is magically 17 minutes less.

Of course that cuts into profit, but so does trying to cut game time… Less beer, less hot dogs, less souvenirs.

  23. This is the rule I’m most excited about. I’m not particularly excited about the bigger bags or banning of the shift.

  24. I’d rather watch someone adjusting their gloves and get signs from the 3b coach than the same advert for the 50th time.

  25. Let’s add this one. A batter can only address the Velcro straps on his batting gloves only ONCE during his at bat.

  26. It’s bullshit. I hate it. Clocks in baseball are abominations. Time isn’t even real and yet these fuckers …

  27. “Hardcore” baseball fans are like, “I WANT LESS BASEBALL!” Doesn’t make sense to me. If you can’t understand the game within the game, then you’re not a real/hardcore fan of the game. Either way, you guys who are in favor of speeding up the game will probably sit in the stands and continue to stare at your phones anyway.

  28. Huge fan, only 3 issues I have with the sport right now, 1 is the base runner/interference rule, overly long games, and rough strike zone calls, with the pitch count it’ll make the games go faster so that’s a remedy for problem #2, soon they will try the automated strike zone in a different league see how it works which I’m excited about

  29. Honestly kind of wanted this. I’m so tired of 4 hour games. I just don’t have the time to watch that long of a game. If we can get back to 2.5 it would be amazing.

  30. I have a feeling there’s a lot of people on this thread that like ads on the uniforms *”because that’s progress!”*

  31. This is stupid. It will only marginally speed up games at the cost of removing yet another element of strategy from the game. It’ll also create controversy about whether there were violations or who was in violation that is just unnecessary.
