  1. This is my fathers framed jersey that he has “loaned” to me as he just didn’t have a place to put it in his house or office. I grew up watching stars hockey with him from as young as I can remember. Lost interest but stopped caring around 2013-14 and pretty much entirely stopped watching. But got really into it very suddenly again this last November. And for my birthday, he’s loaned it to me so it can be displayed once again.

This jersey is signed by pretty much the entire team who was playing for the team when they won the Stanley cup in 1999. Though this jersey was signed a year or two after the fact. My dad has always followed the stars avidly, and during the off season in 2000-2002 (he can’t remember the exact year) knew the team was in vail Colorado for a training camp that not many Dallas fans new of, and no Dallas fans really bothered to go to. But my family were Colorado natives and my dad loaded up the family to go to vail to see the stars at the training camp building. I was only 1-3 at the time. Very young. But him with his white jersey, and little ol me in a matching jersey went into the training camp building to see the stars practice/trian.

The entire team was very receptive to seeing a fan come out to see them at a place they never really expected it and met with my dad to see the fan who followed them out to Colorado. They all signed his jersey along with the head coach. My dad took pictures with everyone. He was telling me Brett Hull was making fun of him cause my dad was taking a picture of one of the other players leg tattoos.

The jersey sat in storage for years but maybe 8-9 years later for a birthday gift, my mom and I got it framed professionally and it was in his office for a long time. (It even has the wrong date on the plaque cause my mom didn’t know any better haha). But family issues and job movement had made things challenging and the jersey was pulled from the wall and went into storage.

Cut to today, my dad estatic as ever to have me be a stars fan once again and someone to talk about it with. He started offering to loan it to me cause he didn’t like that it wasn’t on display and I didn’t want it, I didn’t feel like it deserved to be in my home and it was far more important to my dad. But he pushed and pushed and I finally accepted it. And it now hangs in my living room where I routinely watch the stars.

Thanks to those of you who read, I know it was a mouthful. I’ll be seeing him later for the Superbowl and I’ll correct any of the details I got wrong with edits.

    Go Stars!

  2. Also, if anyone wants to give their best attempt at identifying as many signatures as they can, give it a shot!

  3. Great story and a great sweater.

I’ve got one signed by the 2000 Stanley Cup team with the patch, hanging in my office. But I bought mine and don’t have the awesome story.
