  1. I love the shift restrictions. The pitch clock is ok. It will help speed things up. The bases are what ever. It will have limited impact.

  2. I personally like the changes. Pitch clock can be an actual game changer for pace of play if the players embrace it but I’m skeptical on how that will go.

  3. I don’t get why some people aren’t fans of the bigger bases.

    It’s just a 3” difference right?

  4. Pitch timer “Violations are automatic ball or strike”.. why would it ever be a strike? Does this indicate some sort of batting timer too? (Not sure why that would be needed just curious on the wording)

  5. Wonder how the sports books adjust for this? Increased lines i suppose but it’s gonna be tricky for them in the fist few weeks at least. Alot more overs and player props wins.

  6. Pitch clock: that one’s been tested. It deserves a MLB tryout.

Base size: having played adult softball, where they actually have separate bases at first for the fielder and the runner, I think this is a good thing. It doesn’t help the case of the first baseman being pulled off the bag and into the runner’s path, but I don’t know what would solve that.

  7. I love base stealing and this could bring it back, at least a little. I’m 100% in favor of these changes.

  8. I still hate the ghost runner on 2nd base in extra innings raw. 1st base might be a better compromise.

  9. What happens when it changes nothing a far as changing time of games ? Players — especially managers , certain managers— will find a way to prolong games with the way they manage their teams .

  10. The only thing we give a fuck about is being able to watch/listen to our favorite teams.

Perfect Example: I am a Tampa Bay Rays fan who’s from Tampa,FL who now lives in the northeast (West Virginia) I don’t give a fuck about the Pirates, Boston, NY or Baltimore teams. I want to watch Tampa Bay. If you would fix this problem, there wouldn’t be a need to search out pirated websites who stream games from MLBTV.

GET RID OF THE DAMN BLACKOUTS AND YOUR OUT OF MARKET BULLSHIT

  11. The “only two pickoff attempts” thing is, I think, gonna be the sleeper game changer, and not in a good way.

  12. The new rule says that there must be two infielders on each side of second base with both feet on the dirt. But is there anything stopping a team from moving the left fielder to play shallow right just like the second basemen used to with the shift?

  13. I’m on-board with having a pitch clock while the bases are empty. There’s definitely something to be said about baseball no longer being the only sport without a timing element, but it’s been both effective and unobtrusive in the Minors.

However, I’m much less of a fan of having the pitch clock with runners on base, especially when combined with restrictions on pickoff attempts. Something about a runner being given an extra base because of a new violation just feels insanely cheap to me.

For the shift restrictions, I can tolerate the “2 infielders on each side of 2nd base” part, but the “need[ing] both feet on dirt” part feels excessive/unnecessary.

I don’t really have a strong opinion on bigger bases one way or the other. I’m certainly not opposed to a few more stolen bases here and there, but I’m not clamoring for them the way some fans are.

  14. Unpopular opinion: I’m in my 30’s and have spent most of my life watching baseball in the most culturally diverse city in the world. The problem with trying to get new people into the game is the slow pace and extra innings. I’m fine with the base runner rule in extra innings. I’m just trying to get girls and my friends new to the sport into the game.

The game has been dying in popularity in so many ways, having faster games helps a lot for me personally.

  15. I think more than anything MLB fans wanted 3 things:

    1. Get rid of blackouts
    2. Manfred out
    3. Angel Hernandez out

  16. What fans wanted:
    1. Let us stream baseball in market and stop giving us blackouts.
    2. Salary floor

    What MLB thinks fan wanted:
    1. Faster games I guess?

  17. I genuinely don’t know anyone who wanted faster pace of play and more action on the bases…well ok action on the bases but organically.

  18. I thought they were going to limit the pick-off attempts a pitcher can try to 2 attempts only. If he tries again and doesn’t pick off the runner, it’s a balk.
I HATE that rule (if in fact that’s going to be a rule).
I don’t like the shift rule, but I can live with it.
    Pitch timer is fine.

  19. Of course it lead to fewer strike outs. Pitching is so physically demanding. These guys give their all on each pitch. Forcing this time clock means fatigue, errors, auto balls. It’s so whack. Baseball is a game of strategy at its core, that’s all being erased.
