I was watching Mahomes season highlight, and it shows how underused Justin Watson was.

Out of boredom (and I didn’t watch any of the Chiefs’ games except for the one against the Bucs), I watched Mahomes’ season highlight, and how Justin Watson is used is night and day compared to how we used him.

The only meaningful contribution I can think of is from two years ago – Brady flea flicker to Watson on week 2, and a few third down conversions against the Chargers.

I think this just shows how awful Leftwich was, and the right call was to fire him after the loss against the Ravens during the bye.

  1. You gotta account for the fact we had Gronk and Brate playing the best of his career while we had Watson. He hardly saw the field with us and rightfully so with that TE room. I’d still of had Howard infront of him aswell.

  2. Was Leftwich awful? Yes.

However, in 2020 and 2021 Justin Watson was like the last WR on the depth chart behind Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, AB, Tyler Johnson, and Scotty Miller. At TE we also had Gronk and Brate which kept the offense humming.

  3. The main reason the only meaningful contribution you can remember of him is that one play is because he caused a couple of Brady’s interceptions by making the same mistake twice on a particular route. There’s generally no getting out of Arians’ doghouse once you’re in it.

I’m happy he’s getting more opportunities in KC and won another ring, but he was the reason he was so low on the Bucs depth chart.

  4. He had the same amount of receptions as his high in Tampa and was near the bottom of the Bucs receivers depth chart. What you’re talking about is actually Mahomes. He extends plays and makes everyone around him better because he gives them plenty of time to get open. That’s why Kelce has become an all time great TE; no one was talking about Kelce as all time great with Alex Smith. Mahomes makes everyone better.

  5. The referees should have gotten a special playoff highlight reel. Fantastic Championship round. Struggled a bit in the first half of the Superbowl, but made some good adjustments and threw a beautiful flag when it mattered most. Truly the best team on the field and the reason us real fans tune in!
