Dejounte Murray: “Kawhi is part of the reason I made the defensive team in my second year. He told me, ‘Don’t worry about trying to get 15-20 points, go make the all-defensive team. I guarantee you – defense gets you on the court, and if you are on the floor, you will have to play offense too.’”

  1. I would have loved to see what Pop could have done with the team had Kawhi stayed. They would have been a destination for many freeagents over the years.

  2. Monotone Kawhi being a better mentor for a young budding PG than Tony Parker. Who woulda thought

  3. I love how easy Kawhi makes it sound. Board man gets paid in college, then become historically great defender, then make a historically great leap from bad shooter to fantastic shooter, simultaneously turn into one of the greatest isolation scorer ever.. Now why didn’t I think of doing that?..

  4. My motto has always been …offense will get you on the floor, defense will keep you on the floor.

  5. Now if only he could recapture that mentality and stop letting guys blow by him while gambling for steals. You have a long wingspan and quick feet, if you sit down in a stance with your arms out no guard would get around you. Guess I’m asking for too much for former all defensive guard to play defense

  6. That’s kinda wild that in 2018 he only averaged 21.5 minutes per game and still managed to make the Defensive 2nd team.

  7. Yeah. I mean, this is pretty much what coaches pull their hair out preaching over and over again throughout all stages of these guys’ careers.

I’ve never heard a coach say “Don’t worry about D, green light for everyone”, despite how some NBA teams appear to play at times.
