[Jane Slater] Former #Cowboys RB Coach Skip Peete tells me he is headed to the Tampa Bay Bucs in the same role. Peete notably coached a trio of backs in Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard and Malik Davis who all finished the year without any fumbles and is credited with Pollard’s development.

  1. Serious question; what do position coaches in the NFL do?

In HS and college, their primary role is player development. They have secondary roles in recruiting and game planning, plus generally managing their position players (making sure they are at meetings, following up on things, etc).

But in the NFL, there’s no recruiting; players are professionals and don’t need much management; and they should be fully developed as far as skills.

So are position coaches in the NFL just game planning assistants who have a vague management role of their position?

  2. Stole this from a Bucs fan on Twitter @M1K3EvansTD ( take credit if it’s you!):

    2020-2022 Cowboys (Zeke & Pollard)

2016-2019 – Rams (Prime Todd Gurley,)

2013-2014 – Bears (prime Matt Forte)

2007-2012 Cowboys (Marion Barber, Felix Jones, DeMarco Murray)

1998-2006 Raiders (Charlie Garner, Tyrone Wheatley, Kaufman)

So far Canales is 2 for 2 in hiring offensive staff imo.
