  1. These are all the guys from our team that should be in the top 100. But the entire list feels like they threw positional value a bit out the window.

Lindor and Nimmo should be higher. Lindor was a top 10 player in terms of fWAR and Nimmo was top 20 in fWAR for position players last year. And it’s not like these guys over performed either based off their career. You can say Nimmo might have dropped due to past injuries but Judge is #2 so…

I love Pete but he plays 1B and is not excelling at any part of the game other than hitting, more of a fringe top 50 player if you ask me. Also, Diaz and Clase shouldn’t be close to the top 50. There is a clutch factor for closers that should be considered but are these relievers really better at winning baseball games than Dylan Cease, Zac Gallen, Spencer Strider, Wander Franco and Nimmo, probably not.

  2. Nearly impossible to rank players against all other players outside of the Trouts or Ohtanis of the world. Each position has a different value and each player has a different value to their team.

  3. Diaz is better at his position than most players in front of him. He’s a closer, so I’m sure that hurt his ranking, but he’s also the best closer in the game

  4. I dont care about how accurate it is, i just think its neat that pete alonso is ranked 31 🙂

  5. I just like that the Mets have good players on the team and are still trying to improve the roster.

I’m worried about pitching durability and hoping that there will be enough depth to carry the team through the season.

  6. I find it so funny people saying Pete shouldn’t be ranked that high or he should be flipped with this player or that player… He’s so important to our offense… If he goes down, which he never does, I worry our offense flounders big time. Maybe he’s a bit too high, but the guy is so valuable to this team, and I think that part is being underrated by some people here.

  7. Verlander/Scherzer: Seems fair

Lindor: Underrated. He was the 6th best position player in baseball per fWAR and the 9th best from 2021-22 if we want to blend in his “down” season. The talking heads still haven’t adjusted to the fact that offense was sharply down in 2022 and Citi is a pitcher’s park, so having a “7” at the start of his OPS doesn’t mean he wasn’t a big offensive contributor. His OPS+ was higher in 2022 than it was 2019 when his OPS was .854.

Pete: Seems fair. WAR isn’t everything, but fWAR did peg him at 38th last year.

McNeil: WAY underrated. He was a top-20 position player last year by fWAR (16) and adds a lot of intangible value by virtue of his positional versatility.

Diaz: Underrated. Yeah, he’s a closer. He’s also the best closer in baseball and managed to get some scattered Cy Young votes last year despite being a reliever. I don’t see any way you can argue that a guy who had a 1.31 ERA and 0.90 FIP last year isn’t a top-50 player.

Nimmo: Underrated, but that’s been the story of his entire career. Defense at premier positions and the value of OBP continue to be underappreciated by casual fans and pundits. He snuck into the top 20 position players last year (20) by fWAR.

Marte: May be overrated, depending on how much you believe in his health. He’s coming into the season already with question marks about his availability and hasn’t had a 140+ game season since 2018, and guys don’t typically get MORE healthy in their mid-30’s. If you assume he’s going to have a healthy season, this ranking is fair.

  8. Max and Justin ok with depending on what pitchers they rated higher. Love Pete, but probably about right. Everyone else should be higher, some more than others. I get Marte at 61, needs to be healthy. Nimmo has worked and become top 2-3 lead off hitters in the game and top 5 CF. McNeill does not seem to be getting the rub other guys like him have gotten in the past who have hit for high average and been able to play almost anywhere in the field. Diaz was every bit as dominant as any other closer you can name in the last 25 years and feel like some of those guys had broken into the top 30 before. Keep underrating Lindor. I’m cool with the top 10 talent constantly being rated funky. The worst ranking on the list in my opinion. Best SS in baseball.

  9. Canha and Quintana might be the only other players with any kind of argument for the 100 (and there are enough good players in front of them)

But, if things break right for us, Senga is on this list by the end of the year.

And if things break really right we might see a Vientos, Baty, or Alvarez addition. These are the posts of dreams though.

  10. Honestly these are pretty fair apart from Diaz. Best reliever in the game should be a top 50 player.

  11. Alonso is our best player, IMO. Should be in the teens at worst (I think hes better than Freeman), and top 10 at best.

  12. This ranking – like I think a lot of them – tilts heavily toward The Big New Thing. Julio Rodriguez (16), Austin Riley (20), Adley Rutschman (41), Michael Harris (53) all seem way too high.

  13. McNeil should be higher. Dudes legit one of the best pure hitters in baseball and versatile in the field. Other than that it looks pretty accurate to me.
