He absolutely would have evolved into a legit top pairing d-man with an additional year or two of actual development.
I think this would have been the season if we were considering making him captain.
I’ve always felt he was the next natural step, almost being groomed from the get go with Scotty Nieds, always says the right stuff, and seems like the boys look up to him as one of the vets and most tenured player, and come on, Fowler as a name is an absolute lay up. I personally don’t like when teams run 3 As vs having a true C since I feel like one of them is always gonna be the top dog, but it also makes sense for a season with Getz leaving and how much he meant that it’d be fulfilled by community and GMPV seeing who naturally takes it. My vote is give Cam the C next season start the new chapter and start the next batch like Terry and MacT
When he signed that 8-year deal a few years back, it felt like a pretty safe bet. Team just kinda flatlined after that. Now the team won’t be competitive till he’s like 33, 34 years old, and I just don’t know how much sense it’d make. Especially since the team seems content going without a captain for now. I’ve been advocating for Terry, but I can see them waiting for McTavish to grow into that role as well
I’ve been thinking about this lately. He has the respect and tenure, no doubt about that, but I’m wondering if he’s too passive for the role.
