  1. As a hitter you should be able to do whatever you want to as long as you’re ready to hit by the time the pitcher is pitching.

  2. So who’s gonna be the first team that loses in the regular season because of a clock violation?

  3. That’s actually hilarious. However, I know he violated the 8 second rule, but the catcher wasn’t ready either, no? Is the 8 second rule not applicable to catchers?

  4. To everyone freaking out about how the game ended, it’s LITERALLY the first game of spring training, give the boys a couple a weeks to actually use the clock in games before we start getting upset. They’ll learn, and good chance Cal Conley doesn’t ever take a swing for Atlanta this year anyways.

  5. Damn they were zoomed on the pitcher when ump called it.

Hope they add the clock to the score bug

  6. I didn’t watch the game but it sounds like a shitty ending. But how did Grissom look defensively?

  7. It’s not that the pitch clock rules are dumb or bad, but what a lame ass way to end a game.

  8. They’re ruining baseball because people are so brain dead they can’t be at a 3 hour event

  9. We’ve seen young guys have arm fatigue by season’s end so you’re supposed to tell me guys 35 plus won’t be impacted by having to pitch every 15 seconds? Imagine working out and someone telling you to get back on the bench press and hit more reps, cutting in your recovery time. After months of it you may very well tear something it.

What’s going to happen is someone is going to get hurt. It may take a star from one of the major markets for MLB to actually take notice.

  10. The Cal Conley Rule: if the game is in the 9th, in the last out with the tying or winning run on base, the hitter and pitcher violations go out the window.

  11. I wonder if they would consider turning the pitch clock off after the 8th inning. Speeding up the pace of play is great and all, but I can’t imagine MLB wants games ending like that.

  12. The clock rule against a batter is the equivalent of a football defense getting a penalty because they aren’t lined up with time left on the play clock. Whoever holds the ball should be liable for a delay of game penalty. If the batter isn’t ready in time, its on him.

  13. If the batter has to be ready by eight seconds so does the catcher. He needs to be down in his squad by eight seconds…the catcher in this case was standing up still. the game can’t continue on any level until the catcher is in a set position.

The replays don’t dont show it but The catcher was the last person who was ready. The batter was in the box, the pitcher was ready to go but the catcher was standing up.

    Rule needs refinement.

  14. I just got to thinking Marcell does that little dance swing between pitches, that dude may have 50 violations on the year with his baseball IQ.

  15. positives Dodd and Vines both looked good as did young, Matts going to have a big year with the shift rules and Ronnie looks healthy, and fro 99% of the game the pitch clock worked really well. That last pitch was a weird one from every one so going to caulk that up to “well its spring”

  16. And that’s proof we don’t need or want this timer bullshit. I can’t watch baseball if this garbage is going to determine games.

  17. Weird ending, but the pace of play was great. It all felt more important somehow, just because nobody was standing around scratching their butts.

  18. It’s the first game of spring training. I’d rather they be strict with the rules now, so that the players will be used to them by the time the regular season starts. I doubt we’ll see games end like that in the regular season. I went to quite a few minor league games last year with a pitch clock and that never happened. Today was the first time most of these guys have played with a pitch clock. They have over a month to get used to it.

  19. I’m all for the pitch clock honestly, but not it’s current form.

20 seconds is much better than 15, and 25 if there are runners on.

Maybe give 3-4 warnings per team before actually calling the strike (or ball). Or maybe 1 warning per inning. The last thing we want is for this rule to affect outcomes of at-bats without a pitch even being thrown, so just use the clock as a guideline unless it is broken multiple times. This way the players also have a heads up like “hey, speed it up a little.”

I like what they’re trying to do and I do really think it will bring in some more viewers. It’s just wayyy too much right now. We will adjust as fans, and the players will adjust too. Just some early thoughts

  20. whats going to blow this up is we dont have a great view of the clock and where everyone was at the plate at the exact time people arent going to trust the ump lmao

  21. cant wait for the initial tears over change to go away and we can start blaming the players for not being able to do simple shit like getting their asses in the box

  22. I didn’t have a chance to catch the game. How did Allard look? I was huge fan when he was drafted. I know he’s probably destined for a long relief role, but I hope he can show something in ST.

  23. Congrats to u/Exar0s for winning the participation award for this comment:

    >Olson about to hit .420 this year with no shift.

Please reply to this comment to claim your Championship Ring Award.

  24. It must be baseball season; just had someone wishing death on me on day one of spring training. LMAO
