  1. Ponder was the smartest player to ever take the wonderlic, then proceeded to have the best RB of the last 30 years, just to piss it away multiple times.

  2. Ponder was over 10 years ago believe it or not (2011).

But if just in the last 10 years I’d say Trae Waynes. Missing at pick 11 was rough.

Or if it counts… trading the 2017 pick for Sam Bradford, especially since that was a really good draft class.

  3. based on where they were selected in the draft – Ponder wins hands down.

but in his defense – he wasn’t the one who reached for him … RS gets full credit for that.

  4. Wasn’t Elflein decent early on? Not sure a 3rd rounder could be much of a bust.

  5. Treadwell by a country mile.

Not sure why the hate for Waynes in the thread. He was never a shutdown corner but he was absolutely a solid player when he was here. Not even close to bust territory. Seems people expect anyone taken in the top half of the first round to be a super star.

  6. I’d just like to point out that Laquon Treadwell, as a WR drafted in the first round, had fewer catches, yards and TDs over the course of 4 seasons combined with the team than Adam Thielen had *just this last season alone* where everyone is now calling him “washed” because of it.

  7. Ponder literally set our franchise back several years at a time when we had a very good defense and a HoF level RB. If he would have even been a marginally good QB, things would have been very different for this franchise.

    But also Treadwell really sucked.

  8. I feel like only first rounders should b listed as busts. I think it’s a tie between Treadwell and ponder because they were not playing like first round draft picks at all

  9. Dont mean to speak ill of the dead but gladney was right up there with laquon. Ponder goes first for me tho dude was a genius and had the best rb this decade and didnt do anything with it

  10. Waynes was bad but dude played for 5 years and wasn’t a complete bust. I’m still annoyed we didn’t draft Marcus Peters. Treadwell was supposed to help take pressure off Diggs but just didn’t do that at all.

  11. I’d probably go Treadwell

However, I’d like to throw a curveball and say Sam Bradford.

  12. 3rd and 4th rounders can’t be busts

It’s Treadwell. At least ponder held down the starting spot for a bit even though he sucked, although did have a good game to clinch a playoff berth

  13. Ponder, Gladney and Treadwell in that order. Missing that high at QB sets the team back several more years.

Edit: Ponder was longer then 10 years ago OP.

  14. Clemmings was hyped up but a day 3 pick so not really a bust, Elflein was a 3rd and had a good start to his career so those 2 aren’t it, cook was a huge flop but a 2nd struggles to take the cake here, both ponder and Treadwell were flops but ponder went way higher in R1 so I’m gonna go with him

  15. Ponder was 11 years ago, so the biggest bust in the last 10 years is clearly Treadwell.

    Honorable mentions:

    Gladney

    Hughes

    Likely Cine

  16. Ponder was so bad. I’ll never figure out why he was a first rounder. Just nothing special.

  17. I know it’s tough to accept, but 2010-2012 were more than 10 years ago now so by virtue Cook and Ponder are ineligible.

    By round:

1st: honestly a tie between Treadwell and Gladney. Treadwell at least re-signed with the team in 2019 and filled in decently for Thielen during his injury. Gladney was trash on and off the field.

2nd: Irv Smith Jr. The Vikings have actually drafted well in the second round in the last 10 years. It’s Irv by a country mile. Often injured and when healthy drops passes like it’s his day job.

3rd: Scott Crichton. I legitimately don’t know if I ever saw this guy play a snap for the team. Maybe he got in some special teams work but he contributed absolutely nothing. He has 7 career tackles, that’s it. They got absolutely no production out of him and he was out of the league by 2017. Surratt, Mond, and Davis from 2021 all give him a run for his money but it has to be Crichton.
