The New Orleans Saints have offered QB Jameis Winston a restructured deal to stay, per sources. Winston has until Wednesday to accept the offer because of the start of the league year or he will be released.

  1. I don’t see why, we can save a bunch by just releasing and letting him have another opportunity to start somewhere else. He’s obviously not starting here

  2. Oh wow!! I think Andy Is a bit better ,but I love Jamies as a backup and I’m happy for him. Either way Derek Carr is one of the most healthy QBs of the decade.

  3. Awesome. Good for him. Maybe this is just where he is in his career; and hopefully he’s okay with it. He’s got little kids too.

  4. Good on them for offering, but its *probably* not in his best interest to take it.

He’d be way better off taking a back up job somewhere he’d be backing up a rookie or someone who’s injury prone (e.g. wherever Jimmy G ends up, maybe even wherever Lamar Jackson ends up). Or even a starting job (to start in front of a rookie who’s drafted in 2023). If Geno Smith got one in 2022 I’d think Jameis could get one.

Carr has been one of the healthiest QBs over the last decade.

If there is a restructure, I wonder if it could be a restructure and trade type situation, and I wonder if that could be something they would tell Jameis. Don’t make it obvious that he’s definitively getting cut because that *kills* your chance for draft compensation of any variety. Getting like a 7th rounder for him after giving up 0 draft compensation for our current QB would be utterly entertaining.

  5. This is spoken like a dude who *for sure* didn’t buy a Winston #2 jersey the Monday morning after the 2021 week one game against Green Bay in Jacksonville, but I sure hope they keep him around.

  6. I would not be surprised if he leaves to take a shot at becoming a starter for another team needing a quarterback. Quite honestly the obvious that comes to mind is Tampa Bay.

They currently have Blaine Gabbert & Kyle Trask. I suspect they will draft another qb but Winston has had success throwing to Evans and Godwin. What sucks for us is that 11 million dollar dead money hit!

  7. Oh boy, can’t wait for another season of people saying we “still don’t know what we have” with him

  8. Jameis could probably start elsewhere but I can’t imagine his market being good right now. Coming off two seasons of major injuries and his poor last few games has to be a concern for anybody bringing him on to be a starter. If his relationship with the organization is still decent this would be a great move.

  9. Can we, can we just… not!

I pray to Bacchus, Endymion, Orpheus, Iris, even Tuck that the Jameis experience is over!

  10. Hope Winston stays. Great back up to Carr and it’s nice to have insurance at the most important position in the field.

  11. I have a feeling Jameis won’t do us any favors. From what I’ve heard, he’s not happy that he didn’t get to play after his injuries healed.

  12. i for one would love jameis to stay. he seems to be a great locker room guy and motivates everyone especially during pregame huddles with demario

  13. Nope gotta release him so Atlanta and Carolina can have their turn let’s make it happen

  14. This just simply goes to show ya that no matter what we speculate and what we hear, we have no clue what really going on in those offices.

  15. But when will he be released? Next Wednesday would be stupid. Save 4.4mil cap space vs post June 1st would save almost 12mil
