I see the numbers statistically and I can see on paper the similarities.
But this is a case where the eye test is important. You could always tell Toews had more.
I don’t want this to sound like I’m shitting on Aho but I don’t know if he has too much more. I could see him cleaning up some defensive zone stuff but I don’t see him much more than a Thomas Hickey type of guy.
It’s almost as if none of us are qualified to be a GM.
I mean, Aho has been very solid, but he plays more than 3 minutes a game less than Toews did, contributes less offense, and has markedly worse possession metrics (Aho’s are very good, Toews’s were elite). But he’s a hell of a lot better than Chara and Greene were.
Toews was that good before getting paired with Makar.
I think our issues is with our veterans. Mayfield was pushed into a veteran mode when we lost both chara and Greene. I think he is struggling a bit. Which is why he has been taking some dumb penalties and such.
