  1. Joe, you won’t see this, but just do it. I think Toronto is supposed to be better, right? Go for it. You’ve done all you can for this team and city.

  2. The Reds host the Blue Jays in August. I can absolutely see this move happening before then.

  3. I imagine they’d actually be open to trading Votto anywhere he wanted to go at the deadline, but framing it as sending him home seems friendlier.

  4. Okay so, Votto will ultimately be traded to the Blue Jays. Alrighty then I guess.

  5. If Joey Votto bails out on the Reds after ten-plus years, I can’t imagine why I wouldn’t bail after forty-plus years.

  6. I’m perpetually torn between wanting Votto to retire a Red and wanting him to get a ring. It just sucks that those two things are mutually exclusive now.

  7. 100% fair deal. I’d be happy with him staying with us or finishing up in his home town.

  8. If Joey actually did that and they said no after “considering it” I would lose any remaining respect I still have for this franchise.

  9. He’s my favorite player since ED as a kid during the late 80s and 90s, and I would be absolutely devastated to see him in another jersey. Having said that, he deserves to win.

  10. i kinda refuse to believe he would go somewhere else. His chance of getting in the hall is higher if he retires a Red.

  11. You guys are missing the obvious… it says “if the Reds are out of it…”, it’s really “when the Reds are out of it…”.

  12. So votto could ask for that trade anytime then? Because I’m pretty sure that they’re already out of contention

  13. What a weird way to say Stevenson will be the full time first baseman before the year ends.

  14. I’ll be upset if Votto gets traded because Votto has stated numerous times he wants to finish career here. The only way I can see him asking for a trade is if they bench him and I’ll be so livid. I’ll honestly probably stop following the Reds if they do him like that in his final couple years
