  1. Enjoy retirement Coatesy. You always brought fun and enjoyment to both TV and radio broadcasts.

  2. Fletcher’s biggest crime.

Have had the opportunity to talk to Coatesy multiple times. He’s a very nice, albeit drunk, guy. He’ll be missed.

  3. Town hall put a smear on a great career. Shouting down fans who are displeased with this shart stain of an organization is a very bad look.

  4. Congratulations Coatesy!
I keep remembering the time Luke Richardson zipped you into a hockey bag. 😆. Coatesys corner was the best!!

  5. I’ll never forget coatseys corner. It was so funny as a kid, especially the Christmas specials

  6. Fun Coatesy story: I had a beer in a koozie at a Flyers shore event. He asked on the microphone what a koozie was. I told him it was to keep the beer cold and on the speakers he responded “if you need something to keep your beer cold you aren’t drinking it fast enough”

  7. Alright, time to share my fun Coatesy story. It was 15-20 years ago now. I was at the meet the player’s event where season ticket holders got to line up around the stadium to meet players, take a pic, and get something signed.

How it worked was there were numerous lines around the concourse and usually there were 2 players to each line. Occasionally a line would get held up as Coatesy would do an interview with one of the players the line was for.

Well it was getting towards the end of the night which meant that everyone was there (if you got there early the lines were shorter), the lines were long and moving slowly and time was running out to meet players and get stuff signed.

I had just gotten out of a line that had been interrupted by Coatesy for like 5 minutes and there was maybe 30-45 minutes left to the event. I got into another line, and shortly after Coatesy interrupted that one too. I was slightly annoyed they were still interrupting lines as the night was almost over and we were trying to get everyone through. But apparently a guy right near me in line had probably had the same luck with Coatesy interrupting all his lines, and was willing to be more vocal with his displeasure.

So after Coatesy finally gets done the interview this guy screams up at him “Coatesy! We don’t give a shit anymore!!”

And Coatesy turns, looks at the guy, throws his hands up in the air and screams back “I’M SORRY!!” and you could tell he actually meant it and was probably sad he was annoying the fans by having to continue doing these interviews.

Then Coatesy happened to walk down right past where I was standing and you could tell he was still a little annoyed and upset, but I asked him for his autograph anyway lol and being the stand up guy he is he stopped and signed my jersey and my friend’s jersey even though he probably just wanted to get out of there. I was teenager, I kinda feel bad about it now, but that’s why I like to tell the story to show how much of a class act he was.

    Enjoy your retirement Coatesy!

  8. Best wishes to coatsey. So many years of dedicated entertainment that we got to enjoy. Tim is going to have train himself to work with someone else as coatsey is such a “special case” loooool

I should add he was beyond nice when i met him. Loved talking and answering my dumb fan questions. Super patient. Dude is as real as real gets.

  9. Coatesy, between the benches, hot mic: “Just one, just one…

    Steve Coates”

JJ: “Yes that is your name”

I’ll never forget him ordering a beer on live air lol. What an absolute legend. Enjoy retirement!

  10. Enjoy your retirement!

Hopefully this is a start of our with the old and some infusion of new and younger faces.

  11. Love the guy. Also, definitely time lol. I’ll miss him for sure, but definitely was getting hard to listen to him on radio the last few years

  12. I’ll never forget one of the greatest moments between Coatsey, JJ and Bill Clement – between periods, Clement commented on a particular play into the offensive zone, saying the Flyers had a “good dump.” They all started giggling and Coatsey said “Hey, you get to be a certain age and a good dump is really something special.”
    I’m forever a fan.

  13. He will be missed, he’s been calling flyers hockey for as long as I can remember.

  14. I just can’t take anymore of this crap!

I figured if I stayed long enough we would win the cup.

This is not happening anytime soon so I am retiring….

  15. I will always love Coatsey but I think it’s time. I think this is finally the swan song of the old guard and it’s coming at the right time.

I’ve met him maybe a half dozen times in my life and he’s always been a really nice guy. Enjoy retirement, bud. They never should’ve taken away coatseys corner

  16. Finally! Good luck to him in retirement but I’m sorry, I could not stand his color commentary with Saunders
