2019 was another 100 loss season. Chris Davis ended up going hitless in 54 consecutive at bats to set a new major league record. The Orioles debuted the Maryland Flag uniforms that were auctioned off for charity. John Means became a solid option in the starting rotation. Chance Sisco proved that he was not the next answer behind home plate. Johnathan Villar hit for the cycle but was over shadowed by a record breaking performance by the Yankees in the same game.
This one is short because these season are just such a drag for me to write about. There aren’t many fond memories from this era of Oriole’s baseball.
The slow decline of Crush Davis, coupled with the albatross of the contract souring the relationship with the team/fans, will never fail to make me sad.
Dude was a baller and beloved by the city, and I’m sure he would have loved to not have fallen off a cliff. Glad we’re rid of the salary but I’m not glad he’s gone.
Those MD jerseys were fire tho…
I was once in a restaurant in Riverside Baltimore, talking about how we are still paying Chris Davis tons of money, and this woman in her 60s/70s turns around, and loudly yells “Chris Davis should be ashamed of himself, like we are ashamed of his hitting”. And he husband nodded, and she looked visibly distressed. This was in January 2023.
Chris Davis really did a number on this city. But we are resilient, we drive on. And God I love the people in Baltimore.
