  1. This isn’t really an accurate projection tho. The pitcher sure, but no dh has been given a 330 million contract for 10 years and never will

  2. I drafted both versions of him in my fantasy league this year. Gonna be a good year.

  3. Wherever he lands one things guaranteed. The Giants will be used as leverage like they always are to up the bid for wherever he signs. Probably the dodgers.

  4. Not sure how long he’s going to be able to play at this pace, but boy is someone about to back up the brinks trucks at his front door.

  5. 10/605. There’s a roster spot that he frees up by being a pitcher and DH, and he’s so big internationally- that there is no amount of money a team can spend that they won’t profit off him.

  6. These figures assume a GM/Owner are only getting a player. They are also getting unique, and massive, broadcast rights and merchandise sales that come along with Ohtani. His pay will be over indexed compared to similar performing players. Anything over $600mm wouldn’t surprise me.

  7. I would sign him to a unique deal. 10 years for 500 million. 10 years for pitching and 10 years for hitting. He gets a 5 million bonus when doing both but get a deduction when not doing one of them. This deal would probably never be signed but I think it would far for both sides.

  8. Ohtani has a lot of value as a two way player,

    Except…

It is improbable to assume he will continue to do both into his mid and late 30’s

He is one person doing two things, which increases risk. If he injured a leg for example. You lose two players.

I think everyone’s eyes are lighting up when they see ohtani and 500m, but realistically… he will probably be getting 45-48m aav, for 10 years. Keep in mind we have only seen a healthy ohtani for two seasons, and he’s entering uncharted territory as far as how long he can keep this up.

  9. OK his hitting numbers are not that great. Did he win the Triple Crown? No he didn’t. So he’s not worth that much for hitting.

  10. That mula ensures you will make the playoffs every year and go deep in October. Especially if you were to pair him with the best other all around player in the league! Oh wait…

  11. I’d love to see John Stanton shed the “cheap owner” reputation and offer Ohtani a 10 year / half billion contract.

  12. That will be great if he signs it with the Chicago Cubs for next year and beyond! Otherwise who cares? I sure don’t.

  13. Is this what he’s projected given the amount he does each role? He’s an amazing pitcher but he only threw 168 innings.

  14. Wow… I’ve never thought Japanese player get the largest contract in MLB history… 566 million???

  15. I’m really hoping he doesn’t end up in NY, especially with the Yankees. I’d rather he stay on the Angels than go to the Yankees or Mets lol

  16. Lets not forget he is the highest followed MLB player and argualbly the most popular in the world. whatever the number is you basically also get the entire country of Japan so that should make things interesting.
