  1. I shared this with a friend early on this year. Maybe after the Denver game.

The interesting thing with ZW is as much as it’s been a disaster you still had that breer report of 25/25 FOs would have taken him 2nd. Randy Mueller was saying he knows for a fact other teams are still intrigued by his upside.

‘Tools’ , ‘upside’ , ‘ceiling’ . At some point he’s going to have to prove adequate at playing the position.

  2. Videos like this are always silly to post in hindsight. What about the videos critical of Joe Burrow or especially Justin Herbert from before the draft? It’s not like nobody was aware Wilson had flaws, but all of the flaws have been magnified and none of the strengths have shown up.

The biggest issues he have had in the pros have been caused by the fact that he suddenly stopped being able to accurately throw a short pass, even if it’s his first read. That wasn’t on any of the scouting reports because it just wasn’t a problem in college, but now it is for him in the NFL.

  3. Spot on analysis that the coaches couldn’t fix or Douglas didn’t see. That is his exact issue. Perfect scouting job.

  4. I remember this video and didn’t want Zach, but he’s been far far worse than I thought was possible. Oh well no use in dwelling on it now. Time to get Rodgers and make the playoffs for the first time in a decade

  5. Wilson is a pure tool scouting pick, the same reason why guys like Levis/Lance gets hyped. Wilson’s arm talent was undeniable, but he needed a lot of improvements.

Pre-draft, I had him as a mix of Jordan Love and Fitzpatrick. Someone that needed to sit because he had a few glaring issues:

    1) He reads almost all plays deep field to short field, routinely passing up easy passes for deep shots. He didn’t play within the offensive scheme, too accustomed to throw it deep.

    2) His hip torque is ridiculous, reminds me of Rodgers/Mahomes, but often times he reaches into that bag when he doesn’t need to. He would have enough space to step into a throw, but he’ll still throw off balance.

    3) He has trouble maintaining pocket integrity, floats back too much. Not only makes the OL lose but it turns a 7 yard pass into a 15 yard pass.

The Jets didn’t help him further…

    1) He is adept and showed most promise handling a vertical offense. We have a quick pass short to intermediate offense, that didn’t have enough talent or play call to attack the deep field. I think it’s why they went hard after Hill last year, and why the Hardman signing is important.

    2) He hasn’t corrected his hip torquing issue, still relies on it too much.

    3) I think the Jets expected to have a better OL by now, with Becton anchoring one side, Vera Tucker, and others. So a QB that makes the OL worse was paired with an injured and bad OL, also ends in disaster.

Wilson has potential but he needed to sit a year and fix some issues. He didn’t and team didn’t do them any favors.

I remember posting my scouting reports on him and this sub was all in on the “Chris Simms said…” train.

  6. first half the video made the risk worth it imo

still praying for a resurgence post 2 Arod superbowls

  7. Is this maybe a positive thing, in that ZW just needs to fix one thing?

    His anticipation throws.

One really good thing is he is very young and has time to develop. And with AR coming aboard (for hopefully two years at least) that’ll give ZW time to focus on his timing.
