  1. This is a good, honest .500 baseball team. We play .500 ball goddammit. Salt of the earth, punch the clock, even win/loss ratio baseball. We lose a couple, guess what? We’ll win a couple, too. But don’t get too excited or let it go to your head. No long winning streaks here, no sir. That’s hubris, which this blue collar, hard working everyman team doesn’t have. A few wins in a row, these guys, true to form, will balance it out with a couple a losses. Yes sir, that’s my 2023 White Sox. A good, honest .500 baseball team.

  2. * The White Sox are 0-for-10 with 6 Ks with the bases loaded this season (including 0-for-6 today).
    * Robert hit a solo HR and made an excellent sliding catch.
    * Vaughn hit an RBI single.
    * Colas made a great catch and an RBI double (his first MLB RBI). He also earned his first MLB steal.
    * Clevinger struck out 8, allowed 0 runs in his Sox debut.
    * Santos walked the leadoff hitter, which scored on a wild pitch.
    * TA hit an RBI double off the CF wall.
    * Moncada went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and a 2-run HR.
    * The Sox hit 7 doubles today and lead the MLB with 13 this season.
    * ReyLo let it get too close for comfort at the end.
    * Tomorrow’s home opener was moved up an hour to 2:10pm CT (due to inclement weather).

  3. We played 4 games in Houston, won 2, and nobody got hurt. I’ll take it. Lots to be encouraged about, and a few things to be worried about as well (mostly the bullpen).

  4. * Sox record when I watch live: 2-0
    * Sox record when I can’t watch live: 0-2

Good series split. Lot to clean up. Moncada AL MVP. Back home to Chicago.

E: Fantastic defense. Oscar Colás. Time to watch the Bulls and the Women’s march final

  5. LFG! Finally got the offense to come together! Split with the defending champs who are still probably the best team in baseball!

  6. Queue the unfunny copypasta that got ran into the ground in literally five minutes!

  7. Went into this happy if we split, still am happy we split. Probably could have picked up a third game but it’s early in the season and some mistakes are bound to happen

  8. Very happy with the split. 4 winnable ball games, just have to start converting these RISP opportunities. Bullpen is a zoo and the 6-9 innings have been anxiety inducing, get well Crochet and Hendriks. See you guys tomorrow at the park!

  9. Starting pitching looks fantastic. Offense needs to be more consistent but overall looked very good. 0 confidence in the bullpen. To spend this many resources on the bullpen for it to look this bad is terrible.

  10. MVP Moncada and GG Robert carried today. Good win to get the series split against the defending champs.

Bullpen is certainly a problem right now though, I’d personally like to see Joe Kelly take the closer/stopper role, he looked really good in his appearance yesterday.

  11. Mixed thoughts. Obviously, a split is better than losing three of four but they had leads in every game so they could’ve also taken at least three if they were more clutch. Hitting and starting pitching was solid; bullpen was nerve-racking.

Astros were without Altuve, Brantley, and McCullers. Alvarez (for whatever reason) missed the entire game today. The Sox probably got Houston in as beatable of a time as they’ll ever be this year.

  12. Sox led at one point in all four of these games. Lots of encouraging things offensively/starting pitching-wise, and a split against these guys on the road is huge. But I can already see it, the bullpen is going to be a huge problem.

  13. We have to make it adventurous as always but we leave Houston with a split. Easily could have won 3/4 or 4/4 but I’ll take it a split on the road against the defending champs to start our season off.

Colas and Robert saved our asses. Game’s probably at least tied right now without those catches.

Clevinger was very good today. All 4 starters pitched their asses off in fact. Very nice to see.

  14. Also I want to say this as nicely as possible, please stfu all you saying ReyLo doesn’t deserve the closer role cuz of today. He looked fine Thursday, and everyone has a bad game occassionally. Hendriks has blown several saves, even during the season he won closer of the year. It happens

Edit: if he does this a couple more times, I’ll agree we need to re-evaluate.

  15. Things looked like they could’ve gone south real fast in the 6th inning (NOBLETIGER) but they turned it around. A split is about all you can ask for against the reigning champs.

No we just have to hope tomorrow’s home opener doesn’t get rAined out!

  16. Team looking good except the bullpen but it happens. Starters are good. Hitters are hitting.
Not a winning record but not losing 😎

  17. This team looks much improved. Splitting in Houston is a good outcome made even better by the fact that every game is competitive. Andrus is my biggest concern. Hoping the bullpen gets better against some easier competition otherwise this offense will need to be historic.

  18. Is there a place to watch the postgame shows? Sometimes nbcs Chicago posts them but it’s not always the full show or it’s partially audio only for some bits.

  19. **Interesting Statcast Info**

    – the White Sox had the 45 highest velocity pitches of the Game. Santos, ReyLo, Clevinger, Graveman.
    – they had something like 98 of the fastest 100 pitches (I lost count. Might be like 95 of top 100 and 88 of top 90)
    – Robert Jr had the two hardest hit balls of the game
    – Anderson’s double was 415 feet, actually a longer distance any any of the home runs
    – Bummer was only throwing sinkers (7 in a row to complete the inning)

  20. My Yoan thoughts.. he has been an “in the head” guy, which contributed to poor performance. The quicker pace of this year’s pitching has allowed him to get out of his head and just play baseball. Or heck, maybe it’s the green shoes!!

  21. I don’t see what the same shit, different year crowd is watching so far. The Sox just split with the Asstros. They lost all but one game last year. This team so far is showing enthusiasm and aggressiveness that was almost non existent last year. I think so far this is looking more like the 2021 White Sox. Grandal, Yoyo, Robert are playing great. The bullpen will find it footing. I think the next 2 series against the Giants and Pirates will prove they’re on the right track if they keep bringing it each game.
