3 Changes We’d Already Make to the Houston Astros

  1. No way we DFA Dubon while Altuve is out. Until Altuve comes back and shows he’s healthy and pain free, then we can get rid of him

  2. I couldn’t disagree more about DFAing Dubon.

He’s a great defensive 2b, way way way better than Hensley, whose bat I love, and who ought to be our preferred choice over dubon most of the time because of it.

This was on full display on the cut throw that nailed Moncada at 3b.

In my mind there just isn’t anybody available who is even close to this good, even if we had assets to waste trading for what will be a second UT behind Hensley.

  3. 1: ain’t gonna DFA Dubon while Altuve is out. When he’s back, I suppose it’s an option. But till then, play him less.

2: it is a nitpick like they admit but it could work out. Maybe switch Abreu and Bregman instead?

    3. 1000% agreement. Myers is a depth OF, not a platoon guy.

  4. My comment this morning to my office mate Astros fan, “Hensley and Chas need to be playing everyday”.

  5. I agree with most all of this except you’re not going to DFA Dubon. What if Hensley gets hurt? I think the most probable thing to happen is that Jake meyers gets optioned back to AAA in a month or two and Dirden gets called up.

  6. I’m just hoping the pitching gets sharper. As of now, I think they have given up the most hits in the league. Before the close out game they had given up an average of 11 hits a game. Flip side to that, no more shift so…… could be just that.

  7. Dubon is going to eventually need to spell Breggy & Peña for rest so Hensley needs to keep getting 2nd BS reps anyway. If we don’t have Dubon can Hensley play utility around the horn?

  8. Fuck it!! Why are we not trying out Hensley at second more!!? This is the time is the season to experiment. Dubon is not the answer

  9. Agree with all three, but the Dubon DFA (if it does happen) won’t be for a while still. I’d also add a 4th change: we need to be on the lookout for another starting pitcher. We’re currently one injury away from Brandon Bielak pitching every 5th game.

  10. >Dusty likes to split them in the order so an opposing manager is less inclined to go to a lefty against them, but each [Alvarez and Tucker] have proven they can handle left-handed relievers with no issues. Kyle Tucker is far too good to be getting the fifth-most at-bats over the course of the season.

I’ve been saying this all offseason. And move Pena down to the middle of the order, so Alvarez and Tucker can both move up another spot. Let Bregman or McCormick lead off.
